Comments (26)Thanks interiorispirations. Sävedal fronts in the metod range. I did it very slowly but I think the demo took about four big days (the floor was four layers of lino, each glued on top of the last...steam was my friend) two days to build and install the cabinetry, two days to fit the plumbing and electrical, and a day to tile the splashback. Spent $4k at IKEA, all cabinets, sink, tap, benchtop, in cupboard and under bench lighting, internal drawers, corner carousel etc. $5k at Harvey Norman for appliances. $400 for splashback tiles....See MoreHelp! Which kitchen design should I choose?
Comments (164)In my early twenties I designed kitchens for my mother and two aunts (Uncle built them and they worked), but when it came to designing my own - had to fit a constrained space and no possibility of extension - I chewed my lips for ages - like Nicole, I drew and measured ad infinitum, and used graph book walls, views etc. I did one extra thing - which I think worked - I listed all that I wanted to store, and tried to analyse how I liked working in the kitchen. Some things I had to settle for because of space (such as a smaller dishwasher) but most of it has worked. We have a corner pantry, which I (and the cat, husband a bit larger) can walk into, but have not put small appliances in there - they sit in a large drawer beneath the main working bench, which also works well. It all looks good to me Nicole and thinking carefully about needs and how things work in advance usually results in something you'll be happy with. Good luck!...See MoreHow to achieve a top end finish?
Comments (5)"Top end" has many different meanings depending on where you are! Many "top-end" items are imported from Europe on order and can take 10 to 12 weeks for delivery. They also cost big dollars. I know of one well-known project home builder who used to double the standard price of a display home by displaying all of their idea of "top-end" finishes. So a $400K display home would have had another $400k of "optional" extras displayed including higher ceilings, bi-fold doors, external water features, outdoor kitchens, granite benchtops, decorative feature wall paper, built-in home theatre speakers, and fancy cabinetwork everywhere, etc, etc. Unfortunately if your home is already at frame stage your options are limited, however your builder will love all of your variations as he can charge a premium and extend the contract. I would suggest you engage a professional to work out what is acheivable for your budget and with the timing of your build. Best of luck, Dr Retro of Dr Retro House Calls...See MoreHelp! I can't choose a finish for our door hardware. My head hurts!
Comments (21)I did get a guy out to give me a quote on cleaning and painting the roof. He said he will have to quote it using scaffolding because of the steep roof. That was a couple of weeks ago, but haven't heard back from him yet. I have seen some bad paint jobs of terracotta tiles so am a bit nervous about getting it painted. I wouldn't mind if my tiles were just slightly darker like yours rather than orange, but I do know that the darker they are, the more they will hold heat and Brisbane is hot....See More- last year
