The landscape of this modern farm complex, designed with Lake/Flato Architects, maintains the sweeping view and openness of the grassland while enhancing the existing oak woodland that surrounds the edges of the house. Echoing the house’s dialogue between inside and outside, the landscape was designed to bring drifts of native perennials and cultivars into the courtyards and along the stone pathways.
Reflecting the owners’ outdoor lifestyle, the garden incorporates play spaces for the children, vegetable gardens, fruit trees, and quiet spaces for reflecting on the site’s natural beauty. With generous areas for welcoming visitors, this landscape provides the perfect setting for gatherings with friends and family.

A beautiful home was surrounded by an old and poorly laid out landscape before our firm was called in to evaluate ways to re-organize the spaces and pull the whole look together for the rich and refined tastes of this client. Today they are proud to entertain at poolside where there is now enough space to have over-flowing parties. A vine covered custom wood lattice arbor successfully hides the side of the garage while creating a stunning focal point at the shallow end of the pool. An intimate courtyard garden is just a step outside the Master Bedroom where the sounds of the central water fountain can be heard throughout the house and lush plantings, cobblestone paving and low iron rail accents transport you to New Orleans. The front yard and stone entry now truly reflect this home’s incredible interior and a charming rose garden, that was once an unused lawn area, leads to a secret garden.
TOLO Architecture
The owners of this mid-century post-and-beam Pasadena house overlooking the Arroyo Seco asked us to add onto and adapt the house to meet their current needs. The renovation infused the home with a contemporary aesthetic while retaining the home's original character (reminiscent of Cliff May's Ranch-style houses) the project includes and extension to the master bedroom, a new outdoor living room, and updates to the pool, pool house, landscape, and hardscape. we were also asked to design and fabricate custom cabinetry for the home office and an aluminum and glass table for the dining room.

An elegantly landscaped estate was designed to frame views, offer tranquility, and provide numerous spaces with a variety of experiences.
Long, meandering bluestone paths interconnect formal garden spaces with natural woodlands. World-famous bronze sculpture provides personality to an otherwise pastoral place. Groundcovers of Pachysandra, Hosta, and Heuchera are planted en masse to firmly shape garden spaces. A stone wall retains the generous main bluestone terrace. Though it resides a half-mile from the water, the home is positioned perfectly to provide a captivating view of Lake Minnetonka.
Over many years the evolution of this home and landscape has earned Windsor Companies numerous design awards from the Minnesota Nursery and Landscape Association and the American Society of Landscape Architects.

A paver patio (Anchor Afton, walnut color) to gives the homeowners the entertainment and dining space they wanted. The blended colors of the pavers pull together the colors of the roof shingles (brown) and the New York Bluestone (blue/gray). The smaller pattern of the pavers defines the space, inviting guests to sit. Plus, the plant bed between the wall and the patio gave the homeowners a space to plant seasonal color and an edible garden.

Drewett Works
With adjacent neighbors within a fairly dense section of Paradise Valley, Arizona, C.P. Drewett sought to provide a tranquil retreat for a new-to-the-Valley surgeon and his family who were seeking the modernism they loved though had never lived in. With a goal of consuming all possible site lines and views while maintaining autonomy, a portion of the house — including the entry, office, and master bedroom wing — is subterranean. This subterranean nature of the home provides interior grandeur for guests but offers a welcoming and humble approach, fully satisfying the clients requests.
While the lot has an east-west orientation, the home was designed to capture mainly north and south light which is more desirable and soothing. The architecture’s interior loftiness is created with overlapping, undulating planes of plaster, glass, and steel. The woven nature of horizontal planes throughout the living spaces provides an uplifting sense, inviting a symphony of light to enter the space. The more voluminous public spaces are comprised of stone-clad massing elements which convert into a desert pavilion embracing the outdoor spaces. Every room opens to exterior spaces providing a dramatic embrace of home to natural environment.
Grand Award winner for Best Interior Design of a Custom Home
The material palette began with a rich, tonal, large-format Quartzite stone cladding. The stone’s tones gaveforth the rest of the material palette including a champagne-colored metal fascia, a tonal stucco system, and ceilings clad with hemlock, a tight-grained but softer wood that was tonally perfect with the rest of the materials. The interior case goods and wood-wrapped openings further contribute to the tonal harmony of architecture and materials.

This beautiful Cotswold residence, situated on a site with extreme changes of levels in ‘Cider with Rosie’ country, presented the contractor with major challenges that have been expertly handled. The topography of the land required lots of retaining walls and these have been built to a high quality finish. A beautifully constructed ‘bear pit’ provides protection from the wind and terraces afford views out over the valley. A new path to the main entrance, walling, setts and a water feature, all demonstrate the skill and workmanship of this contractor. The planting, however, is the star of this scheme and is, quite simply, beautiful.

APLD 2021 Silver Award Winning Landscape Design. An expansive back yard landscape with several mature oak trees and a stunning Golden Locust tree has been transformed into a welcoming outdoor retreat. The renovations include a wraparound deck, an expansive travertine natural stone patio, stairways and pathways along with concrete retaining walls and column accents with dramatic planters. The pathways meander throughout the landscape... some with travertine stepping stones and gravel and those below the majestic oaks left natural with fallen leaves. Raised vegetable beds and fruit trees occupy some of the sunniest areas of the landscape. A variety of low-water and low-maintenance plants for both sunny and shady areas include several succulents, grasses, CA natives and other site-appropriate Mediterranean plants complimented by a variety of boulders. Dramatic white pots provide architectural accents, filled with succulents and citrus trees. Design, Photos, Drawings © Eileen Kelly, Dig Your Garden Landscape Design

Creating spaces for mini-golf, swimming, bocce ball, tennis, a patio, and a water feature requires thoughtful planning. When done properly, the result is functional as well as as aesthetically pleasing.
Windsor's professional design staff follows careful design criteria when combining spaces for recreation, entertainment, and relaxation.
This challenging site gave us the opportunity to transform an area beside the driveway into a putting green and bocce court. Reconfiguring the driveway and lawn made room for a restful sitting area to enjoy the beautiful sound of the waterfall and pond.
This project earned Windsor Companies a Merit Award for Excellence in Landscape Design from the Minnesota Nursery and Landscape Association.
