Render colour please?

Hi, we are doing a newbuild in the riverland South Australia. We have used silver top ash for the timber cladding, WA quarry cut limestone, the windows are aluminum, the roof is heritage galv. My husband is leaning towards a grey tone render, I am thinking maybe a colour from the stone? The render will be where you can see the hebel now. thanks

Your house is going to blend in very well with it's surrounds once the timber has silvered off, if you choose to use colours like Colorbond Woodland Grey, Dulux "Pavings Stone" (left hand side of colour swatch in the image far below) and/or Dulux "Grey Mountain".

Other darker colours that will work well in this setting include Dulux "Cambridge Hall" and Dulux "Nomadji" (mentioned before). These greys don't necessarily blend in with the fresh timber but look fantastic as the timber ages and the building is seen as a whole (see image far below). "Paving Stone" is a versatile medium, warm grey that looks really good as a render. It also works well as a neutral internal wall colour in rooms with lots of natural light.

In the following image, Dulux "Grey Mountain" was used near the timber work and "Woodland Grey" on the garage walls to help the garage door become less noticeable.

Remember that colours generally appear lighter than the sample when applied to external walls and darker when applied to internal walls.

Stunning house design. I am a big fan of the descending tiers. And as for render colours, are you considering any of the earthy Colorbond colours?

Thanks Luke! definitely will look at the colour bond colours. I think the warmer/earthy tones will suit it, trying to keep it blended as much as possible with the environment. We will let the ash silver off in time too.

Looks like dune to me....of course could also Bea million others, but this look could be achieved by dune, urban grey and perhaps even surfmist.

I really like colorbonds wallaby... they have some contrasting colours listed below... this might give a dark enough look without being too dark. however would you consider changing roof and trims first and then see how you feel about the brickwork? It might be all you need to do for an updated look. I'd maybe do roof and gutters same colour and then down pipes in a colour similar to bricks so not to stand out..., garage doors maybe the woodland grey?

I think you will get more bang for your street appeal Reno buck from refreshing garage door, and awnings, and some landscaping: perhaps even a timber pergola style entry way to add some visual interest. Pressure cleaning roof, paving as well will give it all a lift. You can always change you mind and render later. But I think with these changes, the lovely white windows and charm can shine through more, without the expense and upkeep involved in rendering.

Maybe a cream or stone based white colour if the awnings are going to stay? This would also match the roof and could be ok with the gutters if you don’t want to change them.

We're looking at Colorbond Dune to render our house. My only concern is has quite pinkish tones in the bright sunlight but I'd prefer warmer grey tones, instead of the cooler greys. You really need quite a few sample pots to test out various aspects. Any suggestions of colours to use that are not too light or too dark?

Dulux calf skin is a nice mix of grey and brown tones, put with Dulux namadji a dark brown charcoal as a feature colour on pergolas, fascias, fences etc. They look great with rich timber colours too. Good luck, house design looks fantastic!

Hi, just had our house rendered this year. I had a colour consultant come out as there were too many variants. Ended up with linseed render and woodland grey gutters. We have sandstone pavers and wood outside that had to be matched. Have had heaps of great compliments and every time I come home I'm rapt. Hope this helps.

Hi,Look at the beautiful greys in the trees near you and work with this colour palette.Love the house.Saw this in a house in the Blue Mountains once was stunning.Greys throughout the house matched the gum greys, superb.The house belonged to a landscape architect.It was just prefect.

I only use Colorbond colours as it drives me crazy trying to choose paint! Way too many options. Most of our render is colorbond 'Dune' - its my all-time fav and in our light doesn't ever look pink, but a warm grey. We have lots of timber trim too, looks great together

Thank you all so much for your help, will be heading to the local hardware tomorrow to pick up samples of all the colours mentioned. Our renderer starts in 2 days time, he just needs a basic tint colour to start with, I would think a neutral grey would be fine. looking forward to sharing all your comments with my husband. Thanks.

We used windspray (colourbond colour)really happy with it, shale grey(colourbond) fades to light blue so beware

It took me about 20 sample pots to decide on the render colour, I was after a beige that didn't turn pink, grey or gold. We tried the Colourbond colours, we had already used Jasper on a shadowclad garage extension and were very happy with it, it was just too dark to do all of the house in it. Finally I found Dulux Warm Neutral. Absolutely perfect beige that doesn't turn pink, orange or yellow. I highly recommend it.

my house is similar to your- we have lots of spotted gum timber cladding, used Dulux woodland grey for roof and render is Dulux Cashmere. It works perfectly - a bit of a grayish stone colour - all works really well together. Good luck

so we went with Dulux colour bond Dune for the render..we still have to paint it. thinking we may paint it just straight dulux dune.

We have the W.A. Limestone, on the front facade of our place. We went with colourbond stone. It's a fair bit darker, but came up ok
