Design help for my small living room??
Hi, I have recently moved into a new apartment and I am having trouble deciding decorations. I live in a small apartment, which I don't want to look cluttered. At the moment the furniture is all very one height. I was thinking either a floor lamp in the corner behind the couch and some art behind the couch or a table lamp on the buffett. Just wondering if the back corner will look too bare if I go with the table lamp options. any suggestions would be very helpful.

11 years agolast modified: 11 years agoI think the table lamp on your side table and a painting or even a mirror behind the couch would re-balance the room. Pick a painting that takes colour cues from your cushions or contrast is fine too depending on your taste. Your room may seem crowded if you chose to use a floor lamp & keep the existing furniture.

Would love some help with my living room - small beach house
Comments (7)I recently decorated our beach condo on a budget. Items to consider are bowls or clear glass vases with found shells displayed. Sisal rug and woven baskets make a coastal feel. The baskets are great for storage as well. I used white light and linen drapes found at ikea.Because of small size of room, i have glass tables to help maximze space. I am adding shutters found at a flea market as headboard for guest bedroom this year. I found many useful items from community sales. I frequent local beach decor shops some pricey to get ideas for arranging and adding items. I would put couch so can look out window to garden. Put it floating in the center of the room, Tv on wall. Two chairs sort of where they are now in photo. Small table and chairs located near door and kitchen. Looks like not much space there but look at ikea furniture as it is for small spaces. Comments (9)Sorry to be a downer, Suzanne, but the minute I saw your table I immediately thought bulk so I have to agree with Leelee, that it will visually fill an area, especially where space is tight. That said, I do love the table. The other thing I am looking at is the table with your sofa - the sofa is much more formal and delicate and suggests a period design, while the table is ultra modern, heavy and casual. I'm wondering what chairs you would put with the table to balance these differences out and that won't be swamped by the table. Love the example Dy has posted for you, he always has great ideas. There was a lady once on Houzz who had an extremely tiny home we helped her decorate and she went with predominant whites with shades of blue and natural elements and the result was restful and really beautiful. Her tiny rooms were beautifully decorated without making the rooms looked swamped. These make great backdrop colours and you can see from the two vases of flowers just how easy it is to add some additional colour. Comments (6)Placing seating in this area would make it look like a waiting room so I would embrace its current function as a corridor. Get a lovely area rug that is almost as big as the space, hang some art on the walls to give them some interest and soften the french doors with a blind or curtain that can be opened or closed depending on your mood. PRO11 years agoI can definitely see a large print, such as my African Rain below to compliment the African style cushions and fill in the space with something bold and captivating. Otherwise a large print of hands, very restful
