My guess is you're on the right track. Sandstone types of colours work with almost anything. Terracotta is fine too but it can look bland with too much red tones in the one area.

one idea that we've had great success with on acres and suburban gardens is mounding up builders rubble and rocks into long piles and then covered with course sand, pebbles and mulch to make great well draining mounds for a variety of natives including Correas and pittosporums
