Comments (18)Hi Jen and everyone else who has made a comment. You always need to consider your personal use in a space, if there is a lot of water involved tiles a definitely the best choice. Timber look alike tiles just like the Hampton style is a bit fashionable at present like many things were before. What is really important is to really love what you select or what someone may select for you. If you love the selections then they will work for you for many years to come and if they are proportionately correct and balanced and not clashing with other choices; suiting your climatic and general environment and effectively in harmony with there surrounds then these choices will work for others too down the track. Poor choices and poor design which is not well thought through is really the true reason for why things seem date or they just do not work. Comments (14)Wallpaper - of course more than one wallpaper is just fine - depending on where in the house! I wouldn't recommend adjoining areas but separate bedrooms of course would be fine. If going for some fun, a powder room is somewhere you never spend too much time in (hopefully) and therefore the level of WOW can be much more and your imagination can run wild! I am not a fan of feature walls and that goes for wallpaper as well. Comments (13)Dropping the ceiling height over the kitchen area would define that space better. You could also make a feature of a lower ceiling if you want with a stronger paint colour or wood panelling but does depend on your flooring and colour choices. There are some great space design people on Houzz but it looks like you could make your kitchen island a bit longer than it’s drawn? The excess of the beam that protrudes out over the dining you could just gib over/paint so it’s less noticeable. Alternatively, centre your dining table between the beam and wall/cabinetry and make the dining area a feature with colour/subtle wallpaper (only if kitchen ceiling is plain white like the rest of the living area. If you want a dining table pendant make sure you measure exactly where the dining table is going to sit (could tape out the shape on the floor). I like the first one also. Mine is similar but a lot older. It is a perfect space for a vintage couple of chairs and a table. A place to chat amongst lush plants, I think. And I found this great vintage wall chart from 100 per cent New Zealand (http://100percentnz.co.nz/collections/wall-charts), which suits the space. Erstwhile in Australia (http://www.erstwhile.co/) does some similar charts. The retro-style maps are a real conversation starter.
