Hi I am really interested in this discussion for similar reasons. Currently our plans squeeze in a pantry under the stairs so 1.5 m X 1 m. Builder suggests we shrink ensuite from 3350 x 1650 to 2350 x1650 long so it becomes a proper walk in pantry 2m x1.5 m. I was concerned I will end up with two nonfunctional spaces. But it sounds like the pantry will work. What are everyone's opinion on a master ensuite size. It means I'll have a single basin vanity only 500 m wide

Thank you all for your comments, suggestions, drawings and photos, I really appreciate the effort you all put in to help others on this great platform. I have come up with another idea (see photos below) that involves putting the fridge on the back wall of the kitchen behind cabinetry doors (yes, I know I was adamantly against this!) and bringing the door of the pantry forward to be in line with the front of the fridge. The pantry door would also be cabinetry and the section of wall. I don’t really know how to explain this, but the wall the kitchen backs on to would be bulk headed out so it continues in line with the pantry/fridge front all the way to the ceiling. This creates a sort of symmetry in the doors of the fridge and pantry being either side of the cooktop, but without the worry of having to line the rangehood up with the apex of the cathedral ceiling....I think. What do you think? P.S. Please excuse my shoddy hand drawn sketches.

I agree with changing the doors from the garage (if not problematic for fire rating), the powder room and the pantry into sliding doors - either cavity or wall mounted for a feature. Also I would definitely have the sink in a bench along the outside wall - and I would have a much bigger window there to let more light into the kitchen. Also swap the opening of the sliding door to the other side and change the door to closer to the kitchen wall so the fridge and bench in the pantry are on the wall furtherest from the kitchen which will give you a longer bench. I would also try to have the doors to the garage and pantry as close as possible to opposite each other for ease of carrying groceries in. @Megan K, I agree I don't follow the Triangle Theory, ie: with galley kitchens this doesn't apply.. Fridge and wall ovens need reachable put down spaces for food stuffs and hot pans. Cooktops need access to a sink for hot liquids.. Many of today's kitchens have more then one sink so that is usually easy to arrange. Fridges need to have easy access for preparing meals, family and even guest access. For me I do what I feel works for me, having said that I'am lucky to be able to work that out where as others need help like what happens on Houzz OKLouise is outstanding for this and has contributed to help many Houzzers over a few years, (who's counting) it takes a lot of time producing floorplans with such consideration and detail..
