I'd be combining the kitchen and laundry by knocking out the wall between them and concealing the laundry appliances in the new kitchen. Ikea kitchen, nearly new appliances (someone is always selling a new appliance that doesn't fit) and flooring (the new linos look really good or perhaps a laminate floor?) If you had the budget, I'd also turn the bedroom next to the laundry into the dining room so your living area connects to the back deck with a lovely sliding door. Maybe also remove wall between laundry and bedroom to create open plan living? Not sure if this is possible if walls are load bearing, but steel beams can fix that maybe? Dining room then becomes bedroom. I like connecting living rooms to outdoor areas, but that's the Aussie in me. Good luck! P.s. Find a good carpenter who charges by the hour maybe? (I married mine!)

I think I am satisfied with my kitchen pantry layout now. I have a AI image of the pantry attached and have worked out where to put everything ........ BUT I am rethinking the need to extend the house (an the verandah as a consequence). The extension would take the internal space from 5300 x 7950 to 5300 x 9450. Is 7950 enough for a kitchen, dining, lounge. Alternatively we could close in on side of the existing verandah to lengthen the southern side by 2895 but I'm not sure how wide this would need to be and how I would organise the space. I guess I'm just trying the avoid the expense and disruption of what seems like a small (1.5 m) extension. What do you all think?

You could get a carpenter/wardrobe cabinet maker to look at it for you, that door takes up too much of a small space. The other thing I would consider is adding extra shelves as by looking at your photo there's a lot of wasted space between existing shelves cheers

Hi Jimb Omm, I agree that you don't need a really deep pantry for it to be efficient. 400-500mm is pretty much all you need for the largest items and drawers below eye height can be made shallower than standard to give you access to all small items so you aren't reaching behind things to what you need. I would not bother moving a wall for the pantry. Seems an expensive option for little benefit. Door from hall to laundry is a great solution as most laundry comes from the bedrooms and bathroom. Are you not renovating the whole kitchen?? If not, you could also store crockery and other items used in the dining room in the old pantry nearest the dining room such as place mats, table cloths, if you use them and cutlery etc. Irregularly used items store up high such as table decorations for christmas, platters etc. This can easily be combined with a coffee/drinks area.
