Styling help
Hello Houzzers
I have always struggled with styling the chest of drawers in the photo. I want something classy, but not too flashy. The drawers and mirror must stay, but all other items can be used elsewhere. Any pics or suggestions are most welcome! Thanks!

Comments (1)Have you considered a chunky framed mirror for over the buffet? I'd then style the bench top with a large ceramic bowl filled with big deco balls in rattan. A bigger lamp with a glass base and linen shade would complete the setting. The other console table would look great with an arrangement of blue and green glass vessels. Comments (11)I would just LOVE a space like this in my home, for I would agree with dohraime above and keep the flow and view into your lounge space free-flowing. One can never have too many views to gaze at! I would make the space say "library" and: - keep the wall unit and include plenty of books - keep the gorgeous floor lamp - add 2 small lightish coloured, plain or patterned comfy chairs and a small coffee table underneath the stairs - add a complimentary console table on the wall opposite the stairs - add a large stylish mirror over the console table to bounce light around the fairly dark space - add a generously sized, patterned rug with some lightish colours in it, round or oblong, whichever you prefer. If the comfy chairs are patterned, ensure the rug coordinates with them Oh .... Comments (13)Stools with wood on them would help add texture and warmth to your kitchen, along with accessories like your chopping boards, maybe a fruit bowl. Potted plants with lovely green foliage would brighten up your benchtop, and a large potted plant would look particularly lovely against the dark charcoal sofa you are looking at....See More- 10 years ago

10 years agoA table runner would help tie the pieces together, then try the vase of flowers to the left with just the horse & the small plant.
Maybe a flat decorative tray to the right of middle holding the candle/lantern, the gold ball trio & the light coloured carved piece.

Things in groups of three or odd numbers look better & a balance of height & colour. The light carved piece is competing with the flowers instead of showing off & the look at the moment is too heavy on the left hand side.

Maybe something bold - playing with the traditional symmetry of the chest + mirror. Have you considered 2 lamps, and perhaps a few framed artworks of various sizes?(this is a 3D render by our interior designer for a client's hallstand design)
But maybe for yours, select very elegant, modern & tall lamps. Consider bringing in the metallic theme which is huge this year... clashing super modern with traditional actually works really well, so don't be afraid to try something unusual.
10 years agolast modified: 10 years agoHi kimvanlogg, re your current styling. Because your mirror is more long than square, I think it needs to be hung on the wall higher. Change over the metal objects, to the side to sit with the vase, then on the other side, group togetherthe cream cone, the plant and the candle holder, I would remove the giraffe. Here are some ideas which I like, preferrably, I would hang or stand the mirror on its end to one side, similar to one of the pictures below, I would then hang two square pictures, same colour tones but of different or similar subjects, with rich frames, one under the other next to the mirror to balance the look out, or you could have a square and an oval picture or brass plate, if you do this I don't think you need a runner. I like the other two pictures below with the lamps I think would work well in your space. They could be more contemporary/more your style, with nice fabric shades to introduce texture.
