I love the yellow! there is nothing offensive about it, i would not change it if it is in good condition. I'm more bothered by the floor and the gold taps.

It's a retro bathroom, but it doesn'thave to scream it!

Change the floor to something more neutral, and you will have a soft and very charming bathroom.

This bathroom has so much character you are lucky! I think the floors are gorgeous and I love the art deco basin. However for re-sale value I would definitely paint everything white, Including the, walls, bath and basin as a yellow basin and bath will narrow your potential market. It will then have a more neutral black and white theme which will appeal to more people if you are selling.

As for the tapeware the colour scheme is not right I'd replace with stainless steel. You do not have to spend a lot of money and can keep the same theme if you go to Early Settlers Recollections or Bunnings.

The vanity cabinet looks nice and is already white so I would leave that in place. I cannot see whether there is a window or a mirror next to it. I do think the border around it works though so if you get the room painted I would retain that as it works with the black and white theme.

Then if you are styling it for selling I would go and buy some nice hand was and moisturiser from Aesop or similar and have nothing out on the benches. Also, a plant or some flowers on the ledge always provides a lovely fresh clean look.

Quite frankly why do anything at all? Don't know where you are, but certainly with the Sydney property market as it is at the moment, I don't think you are going to achieve anything - property is hot and people are paying prices regardless of improvements that can be made, it is not like it is going to add $50K to the value of your property, nor are there so many homes on the market you have a lot of competition. Most buyers either want everything totally renovated and perfect or are more than happy to do their own alterations and decorating or in the case of your bathroom, keep the original fittings. Just make sure everything is sparkling clean so the house is liveable immediately and that should be all that is necessary.

Have you been to open homes in your suburb to check out just what has been done to them and the prices being asked and paid for them. This is the best guide to know just how much work to do.

Belinda - I'm worried you are going to give yourself a lot of work, mess and expense for no reward. If I were looking at your house and you removed that cupboard, the first thing I would see is absolutely no storage - in fact nowhere to put any thing down at all. THAT would bother me before the colour of the bath or anything else. The cabinet fits the era and is definitely not an eyesore.

Right now I'm looking to buy and am really getting put off by the number of beautifully styled homes on the market - the wow factor is there and they are very impressive, but now I'm looking at what I actually need and want in a home, I'm getting very frustrated with all the brand new kitchens and bathrooms that I'm going to have to gut because they are not age friendly and trendy styled colour schemes that would clash with my furniture and are colours I could not live with, meaning a brand new paint job would have to be totally redone.

Like I said, check your immediate area for other homes on the market or recent sales - it really will help you know just how much you need to do or what you can ignore. A lot of homes are being bought by investors too, and that puts a whole different focus on what buyers want.

Why not go Classic black and white? I love the flooring! I would try and hold that vintage look!

That's a good point Olldroo has bought up regarding storage. You could replace the existing cupboard with one with mirrors, and still retain storage for toiletries, etc. some examples attached. They can come in diff sizes to suit.

I love the white! it looks so fresh and new! I'm going to have white in my bathroom too, its also much easier to choose bath towels and mats.
