They are crafty little devils, those mozzies. They will get in every time a door is opened, a window is opened elsewhere in house, through screens, you name it. They are worse this Spring than I have ever seen - due to the inordinate amount of rainfall this year. Our poor dogs are covered with mozzie bites so we keep them indoors as much as we possibly can. My husband is already using his can of Bushman's spray so he can work outdoors. The worst thing (for me anyway) is when I'm woken up in the night by the sound of a mozzie buzzing in my ear. Then when I turn on the light, the darn thing disappears. I'm sorry I can't be more helpful. Mozzies are a pain!

Try mesh over every opening, and keep plug in the bath.

Are you sure they are not the spider that we call "Daddy Long Legs". I guess in the photo it just looks bigger than it might actually be.

Mosquitos are actively pursuing us when we work outside...inside the tractor...even with doors shut....lucky I've got a long driveway, can swipe the pests hiding in car before I'm out on the road! Any one tested any of the mosquito repellant/killers electric items in stores?
Any one have a REALLY effective anti-itch cream?? I buy some from FNQ...only one that gives me relief...without resorting to anti-histamine...

BTW! Worse (or better) for me..I'm deaf...do not hear the beasts...some banging against bedroom window now..at 2 pm in the afternoon!
Fly wire supplied by window manufacturers is cheap and useless...mesh so big you could fly a FA-18 Hornet through the spaces!! Need to remesh your windows, fine gauge....

@dalelesley - the best I've used has been one from a horse supplies shop. Quite a high standard of ingredients. Worth a look. I can't remember the name but used it when I was pregnant in FNQ and there was Denegue Fever going on. The Denegue mosquitos are incredible huge and striped.

I wonder if you are referring to Repelex, bigreader? It is sold at horse supplies stores. Our local Bunnings (2 stores) have sold out of it, and their garden centre is doing good business selling mosquito repelling plants. I know coz I was there buying some. Of course, one would have to practically landscape the whole garden with these plants to have a decent chance at deterring the pests. I brought some of the plants indoors and put them in bedrooms in hopes we get a decent night's sleep.

BTW, Catnip is one such plant, and one of our cats is very happy, but the other one turns up her nose at it.

Oops, my husband just informed me the label on Repelex indicates it is for ANIMALS ONLY, so I'm sorry I misinformed readers. Obviously it was NOT the repellent you used, bigreader. My apologies. I have dogs and I have their discomfort on my brain ATM.

Where are you? To me that looks like a crane fly what we here in NZ as a flying daddy long legs. Think they come into season about November. They are pretty harmless just freak the kids out lol!

I wonder if that's what they are angelared. Mozzies usually love me, and I've not been bitten at all. The ones we have are literally 4-5 times bigger than a mozzie. I'm in Sydney.

Nasty beasties indeed, DEET and Picardin seem to be the only repellents worth using, and of course long sleeves and trousers tucked into socks are required as well.

Is informative. I found another reference recently which listed Bushmans as being one of the best repellents especially for outdoor workers.
