Hi Maria, we love the wood but it is a little overwhelming in that space with the timber floor. A liming white is a great idea as mentioned by a few people here. This will let you have the best of both worlds, a lighter, brighter finish while still allowing the wood grain to show through. You could try Feast Watson Liming White Floor Finish (yes, it's not a floor but it has the size of a floor!) and build up the number of coats until you are happy with the amount of timber grain showing through. You'll probably need to give it a light sand first as it's most likely already got some type of coating on it. The other option would be to leave the walls as is and consider a large, light neutral coloured rug as pompom suggested on the timber floor and perhaps a good sized piece of art on the wall or white wall shelving instead of the dark side unit you have to reduce the amount of timber in the room.

Your scheme is very Deco like, the cornice is I'am finding the window treatment too heavy perhaps change to a lighter colour of light beige or white as per photo Colour scheme at the moment is black white and silver it needs a bit of lightening up to add some warmth but I can see Ghost dining chairs really working in your dining room but I think you mentioned keeping the current furniture cheers

Yeah , I'm more with Austere -- I personally would have gone more luxe , and more variety in colours and textures and fittings . The kitchen -- I like the light , and theres the original door with the brass knob . Thats the good bits . Okay , I like eclectic , and themes -- I would have had every door with a 'surround' part and a chamferred centre -- the centre in that 50's light mint green , the rest in english cream . 'Period' brass handles , knobs , hinges . And not shiny brass -- aged . If you want a slightly more modern look -- get an engineer to make you long S shaped handles , in aged brass . At least some of the subway tiles in a mid green . As luxe as possible -- I actually saw some mid green subways a while ago that had streaks through them that looked like NZ greenstone ! Beautiful IMO . The rest of the tiles maybe in a plain mint green , or obviously stick with the white if you want to be 'safe' . The fridge a mint green Smeg . The stove top brand new but in cast black . The oven a similar reproduction in black . Black and white floor tiles . Ideally as intricate as the bathroom , but even 100 x 100 in a chequerboard pattern , with a black or even mid green ( to tie in with the wall subways as above ) tile frieze around the edge . In fact , how would a white and mid green tiled floor look , maybe in small fiddly looking 50mm tiles , with the light mint partial doors and fridge ? Maybe a bit small and too intricate for a kitchen floor , but I guess you'd have a resin not a grout ? Natural wooden floors would work -- wood veneer replicas not so much . Luckily I'm not an expert , just an enthusiastic amateur . We all have different tastes , and although I do like to stick to themes , my whole attitude is to 'improve' something . It often doesn't cost a lot more . I dislike boring .

I'd echo most others views -- personally , I could live with the aircon and the lights , but the furniture and the mirrors would go ! Again , just personally , I don't have a problem with the mirrors sizes , it's the silver that doesn't suit . I'd go approx 20% smaller mirrors , BUT with really nice wide sculpted dark wooden frames , and lift them a bit -- they almost look like they are sitting on the mantlepieces at present -- lifting them would show more balance IMO . Lounge suite I'd go big , boxy , good quality bright red leather . A modern corner suite would probably suit , or one with a moden interpretation of a chaise , but in big boxy red leather . Or maybe a more classic looking buttoned leather suite , just not in brown -- that would be too much brown . Red or white would work well . The dining suite could be a large 8 seater wooden table in darker brown ( that mahogony one clashes to me ) , or glass top and stainless if you want to be more modern , and modern red chairs -- several styles would work , depending on what table you choose , and how modern you want to be . And for a more modern twist on the windows -- wooden slat blinds -- I have done very similar in my own 95 year old place , and it works well ! My place is similar , although it doesn't have those higher picture rails -- my place has carved rails approx 1.2mtr above the floor level , and Rimu panelling ( a NZ wood ) below that -- has that 'gentlemans club' feel . I did the walls above that in a mid steel blue in some rooms , a grape colour in others , english cream in a couple , and an earthy orangey-brown with white gloss tiles in the kitchen ! And in most rooms , I did a feature wall , wallpapered in complimentary colours to the other 3 walls in that room ! Strange sounding I know , but it works ! In the larger rooms and entrance foyer , I have large gold waterfall chandaliers , the other rooms I have gold curved light bars with 4 to 6 led spotlights -- all with crisp white ceilings similar to yours , and art deco inspired ceiling roses and architraves . I love the mix of classic and modern , with a twist of class
