Cladding

Hi there,

We are about to put an additional level on our Californian bungalow and are going to clad the upper level.

(Just to give a visual - So the lower house is a brick which is bag painted /textured paint - and we will have the weatherboard look upstairs/exterior.

Has anyone ever used either:

WEATHERTEX CLADDING

JAMES HARDIE SYCON LINEA

CARTER HOLT HARVEY SHADOWCLAD

I would like some feedback on the product and what you think. They are all slightly different types of weatherboard, just made of different materials. Overall they give the same look. Architect opting for the Shadowclad, where as the builder usually prefers weathertex.

Any advice will be fab, thanks!

All good product's!

Linea is a fibre cement type of product and a 'traditional' looking weatherboard as it's quite thick like a timber weatherboard. The Weathertex and the CHH are a thinner product. I like the Linea as it has a chunky horizontal shadow line. It is more expensive however (usually).

Go with what designer has said because they're the one's seeing the big picture that a builder (or yourself) may miss. Or, run it by the designer and see if they believe the other product's will not harm the appeal.

Thanks for the input! I also love the thick horizontal shadowline. I have ordered both the weathertex and shadowclad samples to compare, will also see if I can order the sycon linea.

We want something that blends in, but because it's a zinc and colourbond shed home, I want to choose a colour that makes it look more like a house and less like a shed. I was looking at basalt but my husband would prefer a lighter colour for keeping the place cool in summer. My original choice was windspray but I'm a bit concerned it won't contrast enough with the zinc roof...but perhaps better than dune that might look too 'sheddy'...so hard to decide!

The silver will look quite good with your colour scheme. I would probably change some weatherboard for Scyon Axon just to change it up a bit. Also use Scyon Axent for architraves and wall corners. Don't forget eaves and veranda ceilings, etc. as a really nice looking feature use HardieGroove or maybe even some timber to break up the acres of painted surfaces.
