Bathroom layout

Hello everyone,

We're renovating/extending an old fibro beach shack and are after some bathroom layout inspo. I've posted previously on here and had such amazing help I thought I'd try my luck again.

We will only have the two bathrooms in our house - our ensuite and this split bathroom, powder, WC layout.
My concern is the internal loo - I'm not sure I'm 100% comfortable with there being no fresh air "ventilation" as such. We have two young girls who I'm sure will be fighting over mirror space before we know it.
I would like to keep it as three separate spaces as this is the powder room guests will use also.
Does anyone have any better layout suggestions?

It should have mechanical ventilation, if not have it installed.

The layout isn't too bad really, it all fits and works.

minor variation to dimensions allow for wider vanities, more space in the toilet and if you have the choice, the toilet reversed is more private (add sound insulation, ventilation for the toilet and a solar skylight for the vanity area will make the rooms more pleasant to be in and 60cm deep base cabinets have more counter space for the girls to spread out, storage under for towels and linen with matching mirror doored medicine cabinet for everything else

Hi Katie. I've just finished a reno in a bathroom approximately this size. it looks like the toilet is currently on an exterior wall. if this is the case it can be costly - or not possible to relocate the plumbing. Yes, I know cisterns can be installed in the wall. My plumbers are wary of these ....try fixing a fault without cutting a hole - or holes - in the wall! If you are restricted to the outside wall, I would install a sliding door (gives you more space in the actual room). Leaving the bath and shower where they are saves $$$. if you move the toilet further to the left and install a wall-hung vanity under the window, you could also add a 'half-wall' to the toilet area for privacy. (Wall-hung vanities open the room up. This plan would give you great space on the left hand wall for storage and/or laundry hampers, You could of course switch the bath to the opposite wall, and move the toilet to the current bath area. Moving the door to the right AND installing a slider, would allow this. (BTW I just installed a 1700 bath - 1500's are available too.) Hope this is not too unclear! Enjoy the process!.

It’s your bathroom, so you need to make the decision. Do you want to still have a 900mm square shower? Which would be enclosed with the normal framing and door or a bigger shower with no framing? Still be aware, with this set up,of creating small gaps between the shower screen and vanity and wall and vanity.

Have you checked with Council that you’re able to use the space for a bathroom? Then your next check needs to be with a plumber to talk about the sewer options. It’s great that you have existing plumbing nearby but the black water which is generally somewhat reliant on gravity will need to be sorted. Sorting out the sewer may give more design options.

For a budget Reno I’d repair the wall with the leak. Luckily it’s outside the wet zone and you can open it up and repair without having to match tiles. I’d consider replacing the whole wall with a VJ Product. I’d then keep all the fixtures in the same place and essentially not disturb the structure of the rest of the bathroom. Using tile paint I’d paint all the tiles, replace the tap, rails, light and shower screen. With new paint and new decor you’ll have something that looks good, works, and doesn’t waste money.

Love three way bath rooms we have an original 80's that works a treat. I would change doors for sliders this allows more space.

Make shower as wide as possible and just one single glass panel

A timber bench along the back wall and into the shower for shaving legs etc.

As suggested reverse the toilet opening, other than that the easy way is to slide the bathroom door to the other side which will still give privacy in the Loo. cheers

This is very similar to my bathroom. No issues with toilet as there is a skylight and exhaust fan. In fact I think I have more ventilation and fewer smells than some toilets I know that have windows but no fans.

Wow thank you everyone.
I'm feeling better about the layout now. I have a vague memory of a rental property we lived in when I was young having this layout but I couldn't remember if it was good or not. You have all squashed any concerns I had.
