Comments (15)Thanks for your lovely comments! We did owner builder. So there were quite a few things we did ourselves. The kitchen we probably spent the most on about $20k due to the shaker style cupboards & use of 2 Caesarstones but it was worth it because I'm very happy with our kitchen! Comments (51)Q7) Louise - I live in a small federation single fronted cottage in an inner west suburb of Sydney and would like to freshen the façade to modernise it and improve on the street appeal. Within the next month I am planning on replacing the bullnose awning to one that is flat but angled, paint the exterior of the house and lay tiles in the porch and step areas (carport and planting to soften the façade will come later). The tiles that will be laid in the porch are artisan style ones shown in the pics below, steps will be marble. The house is north facing and I am going for the Hamptons look. I would like to know (a) if you think this colour scheme will work and if there is a better colour scheme that you can please recommend - Dulux tranquil retreat for the exterior, trims will be crisp white, surfmist for the awning and momentum for gutters, (b) should the awning have a corrugated or trimdek profile and (c) the tradie will be removing the timber post and replacing this will aluminium ones white in colour - is aluminium a terrible idea? The houses on the street are a mix of federation, bungalows and modern ones. Comments (16)It's many years since we've had an eat-in kitchen, but my current renovation incorporates an eating area in the kitchen because, frankly, I'm tired of the extra work to carry things to and from the dining room and the extra cleaning created by always using the dining room even for casual meals for just two of us. We have had bar stools at the kitchen island, and the grandkids use them, but my husband hates them and refuses to eat at bar height or even at a lowered 'ledge'; on the side of the island. So my kitchen reno will include a table on one end of the island, at regular table height and large enough to seat 5 if necessary. There is a large sliding door to the veranda close to where that table will be positioned, so it should be a pleasant place for casual meals and I expect we'll eat most meals there. I'm so confident of that, I'm converting the dining room to more living space and putting our big timber dining table in the alfresco area, which will be semi-enclosed, with open parts security fly-screened. The dining area we use when we have guests will be super-casual, with a BBQ in one corner and swim spa in the other. I just don't see a purpose for formal dining anymore, especially living in a sub-tropical climate....See More

PRO8 years agoKitchen / Family / Dining Rooms Renovation. To bring more light into this space and take full advantage of the Sea Views we rediesined this kitchen space where we removed the dividing wall to open up the areas and reorientated the kitchen with a linear layout.
We extended the back wall, made a Hand Painted French Provincial Kitchen, Laid new Boral Stonework including a whole new tower for an Iscea Heater and TV which we also flanked with matching Provincial Bookcases.
We then finished off this project, replacing the ceramic tiled floor throughout with timber Blackbutt parquetry with continuous Jarrah and Oak banding around the entire perimeter with a complete transformation of this living space.From Start

PRO8 years agoThis was a pure renovation project - no extension or addition was performed. The old kitchen was ripped out and a new kitchen went in its place. New window treatments, repainting, new lighting and restoration of the parquetry floor completed the interior renovation. Same space, completely different look!

PRO5 years ago4 weeks to completion, from the wall removal and new window install, this kitchen now has a whole new feel to it. the island just makes sense and removing the daggy tiles to reveal the original floorboards makes all the difference. not to mention the new appliances and their clever placement plus endless cabinet storage space.
