Bayon Gardens

We met with Sean quite a few years ago when we were looking at re designing our garden, we finally put the wheels in motion a couple of years ago and he designed a beautiful space for us and our girls. He was easy to deal with, creative and patient. Sean and his team did a fabulous job of bringing our vision to life. He was knowledgeable in all aspects of landscaping and would highly recommend him to anyone looking to complete their dream garden.

We engaged Sean and his team on our large backyard landscaping project after he was highly recommended. We were thrilled with the designs we received and appreciated Sean’s flexibility and collaborative approach to land on the final design. The build and construction took place during 2020 and we were especially impressed with how the Bayon team managed and completed the project all during a global pandemic with the multitude of challenges which were thrown up. The quality of the work was excellent and when problems did arise (as they will) Sean and the team were extremely open and responsive to any feedback. The team were great to work with and we genuinely missed them when the project was completed. Sean’s parting words to us were “look after my baby”, which for us represented that our project was not just another job - he genuinely took great care and pride which shone through in the final product. Thank you to Sean, Emily and the team for creating our dream “resort” which will be a place where so many great memories will be created over the coming years.

We engaged Sean and his team to work on the landscaping for our new built. Right from the beginning, Sean has demonstrated strong professionalism and work ethics. He is prompt in responding all our questions and very accommodating in incorporating additional needs into the design. We engaged Sean 6 month prior to the anticipated handover date, however our handover date was significantly delayed and Sean was able to swiftly re-arrange his work schedule to ensure that the landscaping work can start as soon as the site is handed over with minimal transition period. This was a major relief for us given that we were trying to move in as soon as we can. The entire process from design to construction to handover and maintenance was very much hassle free as Sean and his team have kept their working schedule on time and all issues arose during the construction phase was address promptly and to our satisfaction. Our garden and landscaping has no doubt been the highlight of our new house and we have received lots positive comments from the neighbors and friends. Thanks Sean for the great work!

Within 15 minutes of meeting Sean, we knew that we would be working with Bayon to rebuild our backyard and outdoor living spaces. Sean very quickly understood, not only what we were roughly thinking but also immediately began to imagine different ideas on how we could achieve our plans. The whole process from initial concepts, options and final plans went very smoothly and we were able to adapt the plans to suit our budget as the design evolved. The construction phase went seamlessly, Sean and Matt and his construction team arrived as planned, did a fantastic job and it was a pleasure to have them on site. The completed project remained on budget and time and has exceeded our expectations. We would highly recommend Bayon as a Landscape team for any project, their focus has always been to ensure that we were happy and completely satisfied with the outcome. The project has been a great experience for us, thanks to Sean, Emily, Matt and the team.

A big thank you to Sean and the crew from Bayon Gardens. Our project was a little unique requiring the landscape to create a seamless blend between an existing house and a new separate dwelling. I found Bayon to be most professional from concept stage right through to completion and hand over. The end result is nothing short of awesome. i am the home owner for the Berwick project featured in Bayon's projecs. Firstly, I think the design is great, and we love it. However, there are a number of negatives. Render - we've got a fair bit of rendering down, it's all cracking and flaking off in various parts and after 18 months or so, look pretty ragged and of poor quality. See attached. Timber decking - we were talked into spotted gum by Sean and promised it wouldn't warp or cup. It warps and cups. The gaps between the boards isn't enough so in winter time the timber swells and compresses against the boards either side. On the quote, it said "oil deck", however, it wasn't oiled it was Aquadeck stain and Sean's guys were in such a rush to get everything finished that instead of letting the deck dry before applying he stain, they applied it wet and all the stain sat on top of the deck so after a few weeks of the dogs walking on the deck it looked all scratchy. I've already had to sand the deck once to try and get rid of the stain sitting on top of the boards and I'll have to sand it again at my cost at least one more time to get rid of the stain layer and show the grain of the spotted gum beneath. Again, due to rushing the finish, there are more drip stains and runs down the side of the deck that it ruins a lot of what was done - see pic attached. Lastly on the deck, it's been 18 months and now there is a spongy section of the deck near the back door that I'll have to get in a carpenter to fix. Balustrade - Sean's team didn't measure the wire cables correctly and as such, I've got no adjustment left in turnbuckles to keep them taught - see pics Fake grass - this was a fiasco, the sub-contractor kept messing us around and now showing up, then when he did show up, he worked in the dark and the job was so poor that half of it has to be pulled up and redone. He ran the gain of the grass the wrong way as well so it looks flat from the house and needed to be rotated 45o so when you look from the house it looks like it's standing up, even if flat. Storm water drain sit proud of the ground when it should be 200mm below - actually not compliant with VBA regs. Cracks in concrete - this is simple, after speaking with builders, normally you cut expansion gaps into concrete within a few days of the concrete being laid, Sean waited months and we got a crack in it because there were no expansion gaps - see pic attached. Lighting - on the plan we had lights where there were stairs, makes sense, however, when it actually came to it, we got lights on some stairs and not others, so we have dark patches in the backyard at night and to have to go back and put them in afterwards is a real pain and much more expensive, really appreciate this. We raised these issues several times with Sean, sending him letters with photos with a response back that Sean will be in touch and all these things will be rectified - let me tell you, they never were. Of a total spend around close to $130k, I didn't pay like the last $1600 as I waited for these things to be fixed. They never were and I wish I had of held back more, because it will cost me more than that just to have it finished properly. Aggressive behaviour - Sean had agreed to put up our back fence (we back onto a small section of council land, so it's up to us to sort fencing. The day before we had an inspection for the pool fencing so we could fill the pool, Sean's guys disappeared without advising anyone in the house. I tried contacting Sean to see when they would be coming back, finally got a response to say he'd find out, but nothing after that. I was quite stressed because I'd been watching the pace they worked at and I didn't have confidence they could get it done in the morning before the inspection and not wanting to delay the inspection, a coupe of builders who were here working on some internal renovations and I then worked to put up enough of the fence to ensure the pool area was fenced in. The next morning my wife was heading to the car, my wife greeted one of his team saying hello, he didn't say anything, stared at her and just walked passed her leaving her feel quite uncomfortable in her own home. Then later when I saw Sean he aggressively confronted me asking if I thought I'd gone too far? I didn't understand what he was talking about and told him I didn't know where his guys had gone to and when they'd be back and I was worried about the inspection so I thought I'd help out and get some if it done for them (given I have qualified builders, it wasn't like we had no skills). Later I find out that the guy that had stared down my wife told Sean I'd said all sorts of things I hadn't, Sean did apologise and she he' give my wife a bottle of champagne to apologise to my wife - that never happened. In summary, design was great, finish was poor and staff are aggressive to your wives - that's one star for the design and no stars for anything else. I could have attached 20 pics so give a more complete picture to be honest. If you've got a smaller job, you'll probably have no problems and end up with a great result, but if you have a bigger job (not that we're on an acreage, be aware that towards the end of the job, you may not get the finished you desired.

We engaged Sean and his team after a disaster of a landscaping experience where we were considering VBA and VCAT action. He talked sense and rather than going down that route we instead employed his services to rectify the issues. From the outset he was positive and realistic with what we could do. The new plan he came up with was exactly what we wanted without knowing we wanted it. He worked with what we had and the style of the house as well as our family needs for the space. We had underestimated landscaping requirements after building our home and initially we were surprised as to how much it would cost, after going through the process Sean and his team were worth every penny, as the work went on I could see how the costings played out and very impressed with his team. The quality of his work speaks for itself, from the planning to the execution. His team are absolutely brilliant and gave us renewed faith in the building process. His costings and planning are easy to understand and he only engaged with us when needed. Building can be intrusive but we found that they had minimal impact on our day to day. My only issue was that we didn't engage with such a professional company in the first place. These guys are worth every penny and we won't engage any other landscaping company in the future as they gave us everything we wanted and needed first time. Can't thank them enough for giving us a useable backyard that we can enjoy as a family.

Bayon Gardens were a joy to engage from consultation / quotation stage through to completion of the garden. Sean was knowledgeable, offered great advice and his team so amenable. I'm couldn't be happier with the end result and their attention to detail.

Sean and his team were truly exceptional. Sean created an incredible design that stayed true to the architecture of our house, created multiple entertainment spaces that draw you into them, which not only captured, but exceeded, our hopes and dreams for the project. We are more than happy with the transformation of our back courtyard and front garden, recently completed by Bayon Gardens. We realised that good design was very important to maximise our small spaces and Sean came up with some excellent ideas to create a garden to suit the way we live. It is a testament to Sean's design skills that we have a lot going on in our spaces - but they actually look bigger than before! The work was carried out with skill and attention to detail by the cheerful and hardworking team, who took pride in their work and finished off leaving the place immaculate. Bayon Gardens listened to our high level concepts and designed gardens for our home that went way beyond our expectations. The implementation went very smoothly and we now have gardens, walkways, decks and ponds that blow us away.
