Master Bedroom, Robe & Ensuite Layout Help

Hi,

I need help with some ideas for our master bedroom layout which needs to include walk in robe and ensuite. The current room is on a slab so i'm confined by the current exterior walls, all internal walls can change. Ideally keeping the new ensuite near the current plumbing would be cheaper, but not a requirement if there's a good reason to move it.

I've attached the current design.

where is north and do you have gorgeous views out those big windows and where does the bedroom door open to? ...there isn't a much better layout although moving the wall will allow more wall space in the wiw and a more generous ensuite with careful choice of fixtures including a 90cm wide vanity with drop in basin, narrow toilet in a 80cm wide space and walk in shower 160cm x 90cm and wide mirror doored wall cabinet and a ventilating sklight the ensuite should be much more comfortable and allows extra wall space for 4.65m of storage in the wiw plus dressing space and room for 3 x 90cm wide chests of drawers and a chair etc

As Oklouise said you can keep the size of the ensuite the same or enlarge it for a better out come. I notice that there's no window in the ensuite, it would of great benefit to install one, big or small for better light and ventilation. Wall hung vanity with recessed shaving mirror cabinet above

WIW has double hanging along one wall (with a dirty clothes basket in the base of one of the cabinets, and open shelves and or drawers on the other wall. A double chair to sit down and resting things on while dressing

Thank you both very much. You've both put a lot of thought and effort into this, its much appreciated! Its definitely opened up my thoughts and ideas on the space! Its definitely not as daunting as I was thinking and it is do-able! When you look at it everyday you get a bit stuck. I guess I need to weigh up making that study space smaller. It then makes the house technically 3B 2B. But I'm going to have to compromise somewhere for this to work! Its nice to have something tangible and clear to show the builders, so thank you! I might start drawing up something that's a little of both, as I love aspects of both designs. :)

with north on the bathroom side i suggest that a wide highlight window for the ensuite would give the best light and ventilation without losing privacy and, depending on views, you could have similar highlight windows in the bedroom or swap tall narrow windows from south to north, consider reducing the western windows and/or add sunscreens to the outside and, if this bedroom might be used by aged or disabled it could be worthwhile to add grab rails and walk in showers etc during construction and i've added some ideas for the laundry toilet and some extra storage in the games room

thinking about the rumpus and wine cellar my suggestions keep most of the original walls with the cellar built in the garage with no external walls to improve insulation and temp control, uses the old single garage door space for an optional entry porch and has the new bar in the old gym maybe replacing the sliding door with a servery window? and the opening to the rumpus could have optional doors to separate the rumpus and bar and keeping the angled wall (and matching ceiling?) in the rumpus could be a good location for a small heater and there's more wall space for enough furniture for a crowd and i've added some suggestions for the bathroom with a separate powder room with vanity and, based on family gossip, a wine cellar this size should have enough space for about 1500 bottles and a small tasting table and chairs!! avoiding changes to walls and adding new doorways instead keeps the original ceilings, avoids unnecessary demolition, is cheaper and saves money that will be needed for new finishes

I also like oklouise plan. good insulation is the key. In your original posted plan, Maybe change where the beds are positioned in the room. I think there is some bad feng shui if your head is backing onto a toilet. Apart from the noise factor, every time the toilet is flushed.

As previous comments have said if you can make the bathroom larger do it. Most buyers expect and double vanity and walk in shower in a master bathroom these days. I’d debate a window in the walk in robe, it’s a lovely idea but if people have sensitive fabrics it may mark it or damage it in some way. A window in the bathroom is a great idea though.
