I have a boring wall. What can I do with it?

The wall behind my tv is boring but there isn’t really a good place for art. Anything I can do to make this wall not just...blah?
(Please ignore the random stuff everywhere...we are redoing our powder room and moving some furniture around)

Comments (15)I think painting the walls lighter and brighter is the right move but don't be restricted to white necessarily - although that would be the safe option and you know for sure it would work! You could introduce a contrasting colour on the ceiling if the walls were white obviously dependent on your furnishings and other colour choices. How about a soft grey or "greige" as an alternative to the white? Finally, you could introduce a dado rail at approx 1m from the floor - painted white the same as cornice and ceiling and then paint the upper and lower sections in contrasting colours of say charcoal on the base and white above or 2 shades of the same colour....See MoreWhat can I do with these dark walls? Comments (24)Hi Maria, we love the wood but it is a little overwhelming in that space with the timber floor. A liming white is a great idea as mentioned by a few people here. This will let you have the best of both worlds, a lighter, brighter finish while still allowing the wood grain to show through. You could try Feast Watson Liming White Floor Finish (yes, it's not a floor but it has the size of a floor!) and build up the number of coats until you are happy with the amount of timber grain showing through. You'll probably need to give it a light sand first as it's most likely already got some type of coating on it. The other option would be to leave the walls as is and consider a large, light neutral coloured rug as pompom suggested on the timber floor and perhaps a good sized piece of art on the wall or white wall shelving instead of the dark side unit you have to reduce the amount of timber in the room....See MoreWhat is this kitchen nook called & what can I do with it?!

I also thought the comeback was unnecessarily aggressive & unwarranted. I would keep whatever you put there quite subtle and simple in colour so it doesn't draw the eye. You've got a nice retro/scandi feel from the look of it, see it as another way to carry this through?! So some ideas: - a small succulent in a low 1-2" pot, possibly including a trailing one such as Silver Falls (though don't let it get too out of hand!), will help make it look less compartmenty. Comments (3)A whirlybird might help but I remember the consumer magazine had an article about them years ago and they were more useful in some circumstances than others, it was not a matter on stick one on your roof and it fixes a variety of different issues.. As far as reducing heat goes, our neighbours lasted one summer with the whirlybird and then installed a cooling system. So I think a better understanding of the cause of the problem might lead to better solutions. What else is in your roof? Do you have insulation and/or sisalation? Do the bathroom exhaust fans ventilate into the roof space or are they ducted to the outside? Same question for kitchen rangehood?...See More

6 years agoPaint does wonders! Paint that wall an accent color (dark navy like Benjamin Moore's Van Duesen Blue would be beautiful with your console and would make the tv "disappear" when it's not in use), or if you want something a little more edgy try a simple graphic. Here's one we did recently in a bedroom where we didn't want to hang art above the bed:
