Seeking ideas for entrance
Comments (1)Hi dllee, Fabulous stained glass windows. Gauging your space from the photos I think a bench seat on the left side wall (if your back is to the front door) with baskets under it for shoes. I suggest having artwork on the back wall and a mirror over the bench seat as a mirror directly opposite the front door can make people feel uncomfortable when they come in. The bench seat could be a timber outdoor style with cushions and you'll also need a rug. The rug and cushions could be in colours taken from your stained glass windows. As the back wall is the first thing you see it needs to have impact so that it draws people into your home. You can do this with 1 large piece or you could have a group of 4 pieces in the same frames. Don't be afraid with size. If you need extra storage you could replace your shoe shelf with a closed one like the narrow shoe storage units that Ikea have. Good luck with it. Comments (20)Thank you everyone for your tips and ideas. Firstly, it is a bit confusing because the plan says 'study' (former residents used it as a study). Its intended purpose, and what we will use it for is a small dining room/breakfast nook. There is light from the study window, but most of it is obscured by trees. To pretty up the carport space I have planted some hardenbergias, but they are not doing great when a two-story house blocks the northerly sun. me me and fianou luca - I don't mind the idea of frosted louvres. It has come up in our discussions. I will have to research if it fits in with the aesthetic of our kitchen and mid-century windows in the lounge room. Kitchen and Home Sketch Designs - Unfortunately the door to the carport is unusable. It is over a metre drop from the kitchen to the outside ground and there is old plumbing around it. Bricking it up is non-negotiable. I like the idea of putting a window further down into the 'study', but only if we were to set the shed back further. It is food for thought in the future. Siriuskey - I think we are on the same page. I would love to set the garage back, however, that is way into the future. Thank you to everyone who suggested skylights. I would LOVE to add them. It might be worth getting a quote, but we need to draw a line in the sand for this renovation. After the kitchen is done, we need to redo our roof. Perhaps a good time for some VELUX! I am still really torn on what to do. I just blocked up the windows with some towels, and it is quite dark. It is hard to gauge because the walls are still up, thus obscuring light from the lounge and study. Will need to do more pondering....See MoreBathroom renovation begins - Seeking opinions on selections please
Comments (34)Yes, siriuskey. You are right again. It would be smart to invest in having a professional draftsman draw it up. But on face value, I really think oklouise's plan works. I have sort of drawn it out on the floor. I love that she is using standard size vanities with only a custom made top, and the towel shelves are now 450 instead of 250 wide, which is much better. The little odd-shaped infill at the end of the bath provides a spot for the lovely jug and bowl set my mother made for me. (I used to use the jug to pour water over the grandchildren's heads when I washed their hair, and now it's just a lovely decorative item with deep sentimental value) and there is space beside the bath for the urn filled with decorative soaps that was a gift from a son-in-law on his first visit to our home. I really think the bath needs to come back to 1500 long, but that's not an issue at all. I found a really nice shaped oval tub at 1500 x 760 that I like and is quite inexpensive. I don't need to worry about towel rails because I have a lovely timber free-standing towel rack that will fit nicely at the end of the shower if the shower door is placed on the side. It looks like the vanity drain can run under the drawers and into the bath outlet and the WC vanity will run under the wall into the shower drain, and all other plumbing stays the same except I'll ask the plumber to chase the shower tap and rose into the exterior wall rather than have it on the side, OR there is room for a false wall in front of the exterior wall to hide the plumbing if that works out better. The niche can go in the new wall behind the WC vanity. I'll be really surprised if this isn't a feasible plan, but I will take your advice, siriuskey, and get a pro to draw it up so I can be totally confident it works. Can't thank you enough, oklouise - and you, siriuskey, for all your efforts which, I think, contributed by generating new ideas and flushing out the important issues....See Moreivy333dale
