brick fireplace, hearth, windows advice please
Comments (8)Hi Georgia, The brick is quite dominant. You could paint out the 2 small side walls to match the rest of the walls in the room. The main fire place you could do the flooring; up to the mantel height you could either leave the brick as is as maybe white wash it to make it less dark, or you can clad it with a tile of stone. Replace the mantle timber wish something that is the full width of the fire place so that it creates a separation point. Paint the brick above the mantle either the same colour as the rest of the room or something complementary. There is always the option of plasterboard so you don't have as much texture visible. Let me know if you need more help. MKG...See MoreUpdating facade - window and brick sill dilemmas
Comments (9)Hi Emma, in response to your two questions 1) You can paint aluminium window frames with the right preparation, however, it gets tricky where the windows open and are in contact with another part of the frame. Your windows look like they are sliding windows, so they will be hard to paint, where they slide in the track. Even if you can paint all of the window frames the new paint is likely to chip where it slides. Being old aluminium frame windows they will be very poor at controlling heat loss and gain (as the window frame conducts the heat) so I would suggest that you save your dollars and replace them with something more energy-efficient. Many windows are made to standard sizes based on brick opening dimensions so keep an eye out for new/old stock, and wrongly ordered window sizes that are for sale on eBay and Gumtree to match your window opening sizes. 2) Your sill bricks are probably cored (with holes running through them) or have recessed "frogs" on the top face. These holes or recesses are concealed in the way that they are laid. If you slice your sill brick diagonally to flatten out the front in line with the wall then they will be exposed and look really bad. There are lots of other more cost-effective ways to work with what you have and improve the look of your home. Comments (11)This may sound horrible but I keep thinking black tiles definitely where the range hood is going . ...could it be The hero of the kitchen area ? The rest of the tiling in white but not to the ceiling ( too commercial or bathroomish for my liking ) ..I would consider white floating shelves on the narrow walls on either end of your windows to add practicality to the modern look . As for Tiling...the area you have is generally is not a large space for tiling unless you go to the ceiling so I would keep the tiling low no matter which design you choose stacked or other. However, I would tile the range hood area up to the window line (in white to complete the white tile look or black to make the big bold black range hood stand out and take centre stage .) I also love Herringbone tiles for modern kitchens /bathrooms. But not knowing how busy your bench is plain stack may be the way to go . Good luck ENJOY your kitchen !...See MoreHelp with window coverings for red brick house, red roof, black windows
Comments (12)How About Laser Cut Panels? It'll make your house more modern and you can choose infinite patterns whatever you want, there's so many style oh and make sure the panels attached on the window that can be opened or you can't pass permission for emergency exit in case of fire or just plastered film sticker on the window so it'll become "one way mirror" which you can see outsidebut they can't see inside, but at night the opposite will happen so you can have sheer and blackout on the window might think your house w...See MoreBianca Amato
