Need curtain advice for a new home!
Comments (2)Here is a perfect example of how to hang simple panels. Rod is ABOVE the frame and extended onto the wall so that the fabric clears the glass. There is no need to cover higher transom windows. They look great unadorned. Here is another suggestion for transom and double hung. Transom plain and affordable matchstick blinds. And then there is the window treatment that takes care of it all. This is my #1 favorite…the plantation shutter. Not inexpensive, worth the investment, you can leave them as is or you can hang panels for more color, easy to clean, adjustable for any light/privacy needs and you will have them the rest of your life. If I were you and just starting out in a new home, I would do plantation shutters, and if budget-minded, do one room at a time....See MoreNeed ideas for our new bare backyard
Comments (5)Hi, you have so much space to play with. Think about what is important to you when you are considering functionality for you. If you have kids, a play area may be important, if you live near the beach, perhaps an outdoor shower? If you love entertaining, maybe a fire pit. Be creative! The trees mentioned above are a great idea for ensuring privacy....See MoreHelp! Decorating ideas needed for my new living room
Comments (11)The right coffee table, throw and wall art are not going to be enough to disguise the fact that you have downsized from a much larger home with your large, dark, formal furniture that dominates a compact room. Have you considered moving pieces to other rooms, or selling it, and buying clean-lined, contemporary style furniture off eBay? This style will fit the proportions of your room, and make it easier to live with your dust free strategy. The beauty of second-hand furniture is that when you can afford to upgrade you can sell it again on eBay. and recover your costs. Never paint perfectly good pieces of timber furniture as it will devalue the pieces. Sell them as is, somebody will cherish them as they are. I would keep the couch, decide on the tone of your new timber floor, and use these two elements to decide on the rest of your colour scheme. Your celing fan/light is also a distraction, so replace with something sleek and contemporary that is not such a feature. Your room layout is problemmatic with the number of doors coming into the room, but it is hard to suggest a better stategy without a floorplan. Comments (16)You should be asking yourself, what do you like? Do you like contemporary or country, or white or wood or dark colours. If you know you like a particular style, then do a google or houzz search of kitchens in that style. At the moment your home is made up of various style, 1990 floor tiles, almost French provincial On the outside, a bit of terrace federation thrown in also. In other words, your home is not "a style" but a mixture of lots of styles. So you need to look at lots of photos of kitchens and dining/lounge rooms, and work out what is your style. Then start a fresh. If you stick with what you like, it will all come together. This is the same for the exterior....See MoreDavid Cary
