Outdated fireplace makeover project! Please help!
Comments (4)Hi Sien, frequently tiles are built up covering either original stone hearth and/or concrete bases required to keep the fire away from timber so you need to figure out: a) Do you want to keep some sort of a fireplace b) Will it be functional and what kind of fuel do you want to use c) Are you prepared to put the work in on maintaining a traditional fireplace with wood fuel (lots of work - dirty, unpleasant work and chimney sweeping) or the cleaner gas/electric options. I don't think you need an interior designer - you can do it yourself - do your homework and talk to local fireplace retail specialists in your area so that you're making informed choices - this will help you decide what to pull out, what to keep, what to install. Then you can call in a fireplace maintenance expert (sweep and flue services) either to clean out your fireplace prior to pulling it out (stops more dirt/dust/soot from flying around your home then absolutely necessary) or doing the maintenance on it....See Morecolour scheme gone wrong
Comments (9)I think your biggest problem is the paintwork, particularly as it seems quite dark in the space anyway. If you sell the furniture & replace it you will run at a loss, so I would put that money into repainting instead. Go for a much lighter colour, like Dulux Natural White. Beige & pale blue absolutely work together, & when the beige is on the floor only it will be far less of an impact, it's actually quite a neutral flooring to work with, and certainly a 'beige' floorboard will lends itself well to a Scandinavian look. Also you really want to mazximise the light in the space to achieve a Scandi look so the whiter walls will help this too. If you search "beige and blue" on Houzz I would be surprised if there weren't countless schemes incorporating these colours. Good luck :)...See MoreHelp! Polished concrete floor has gone Yellow
Comments (12)Hi Josette Polyurethane based sealers often turn yellow when they are exposed to UV. The same thing can happen with oil based white paints where they are NOT exposed to UV and the tannins turn them yellow. I would speak with the installer and find out what product was specifically used and then make enquiries with the supplier of that product. Cheers...See MoreAny advice when a kitchen designer/installer has gone M.I.A??
Comments (5)Update: This is now going before the Tribunal as after months of broken promises, shoddy workmanship and numerous attempts to just get the job finished, work is still not complete. Apparently this builder is not licensed and no contract was provided before work started. He also has most of the full fee not just the deposit. So, can anyone please advise how the Tribunal may judge this case given there was no contract and no builders licence? There is email and text message evidence of the agreement, cancelled meetings, negotiations etc. Should my brother retain legal representation? Who would be responsible for legal costs? Any guidance on this matter would be very appreciated. Kind regards Lisa...See Morecpartist
