Our apartment (150m2 +16m2 outdoor living)
Comments (35)The mezzanine and storage spaces. Next to the mezzanine the builder installed a little door for us to give us access into the roof space. As the kids are using the mezzanine as a chill out area to watch TV play video games the storage now holds their board games, art and craft etc. The girls painted the walls to brighten it up. As the ducted system didn't work too well at the front of apartment we had to install a split system AC to cool down the study and the two front bedrooms....See MoreAdvice on painting laminate kitchen cabinet doors please, apart from ,
Comments (3)It can be done. Clean any grease etc off the doors using sugar soap, fill any holes/deep scratches with polyfilla, reglue any loose edge strips. Sand to remove any shine, use a fine/medium grit sandpaper & be careful not to sand too much around the edges. Apply 1st undercoat (I used oil based sealer binder), leave to dry for 24hrs then lightly sand with black very fine sandpaper, apply 2nd undercoat. Leave to dry & cure for at least 24hrs, sand again. Apply first top coat (I used enamel paint, gloss). Would not recommend using high gloss paint as it will exaggerate any defects. Leave to dry for 24hrs, sand lightly with fine black sandpaper. Apply 2nd top coat then leave to dry for at least a week before using. Recommend removing the doors & taking off all hardware, also paint the backs of door. Put a long screw in the handle hole or catch hole so you can manoeuvre the door(s) while painting. You can do the undercoats outside but recommend doing top coats in a dust free area inside. Wear disposable rubber gloves for easy cleanup. You can speed up the process by using water based undercoats & topcoats but it won't be as resilient. Comments (21)Yeah , I'm more with Austere -- I personally would have gone more luxe , and more variety in colours and textures and fittings . The kitchen -- I like the light , and theres the original door with the brass knob . Thats the good bits . Okay , I like eclectic , and themes -- I would have had every door with a 'surround' part and a chamferred centre -- the centre in that 50's light mint green , the rest in english cream . 'Period' brass handles , knobs , hinges . And not shiny brass -- aged . If you want a slightly more modern look -- get an engineer to make you long S shaped handles , in aged brass . At least some of the subway tiles in a mid green . As luxe as possible -- I actually saw some mid green subways a while ago that had streaks through them that looked like NZ greenstone ! Beautiful IMO . The rest of the tiles maybe in a plain mint green , or obviously stick with the white if you want to be 'safe' . The fridge a mint green Smeg . The stove top brand new but in cast black . The oven a similar reproduction in black . Black and white floor tiles . Ideally as intricate as the bathroom , but even 100 x 100 in a chequerboard pattern , with a black or even mid green ( to tie in with the wall subways as above ) tile frieze around the edge . In fact , how would a white and mid green tiled floor look , maybe in small fiddly looking 50mm tiles , with the light mint partial doors and fridge ? Maybe a bit small and too intricate for a kitchen floor , but I guess you'd have a resin not a grout ? Natural wooden floors would work -- wood veneer replicas not so much . Luckily I'm not an expert , just an enthusiastic amateur . We all have different tastes , and although I do like to stick to themes , my whole attitude is to 'improve' something . It often doesn't cost a lot more . I dislike boring ....See MoreArt Deco apartment transformation
Comments (11)Mask windows -- 1 hour . Load 20 litres of white paint into spray painter -- 10 minutes . Paint everything white -- 3 hours . Done . Yes , I know , it has been updated , and I do like the dark charcoal kitchen cupboard doors with gold handles -- it has an art deco nod to it , but the rest is underwelming in its design and execution IMO ....See MoreUser
