Side by side ovens are good, but wall ovens would be better. See attached photos for possible layout. If you are building this home to live in, then how do you live, have you got bad backs etc.

Agree with sirius, 900 is not ideal for space either side of island. You could increase to 1000 and reduce pantry width to 1320. You will still have 920w standing room in pantry if the shelves on the left wall are 400 deep (and you won't need the bench on the back wall in pantry to be 700d - 600 would be sufficient - so that will make the standing room lengthways roomy at 1350).

Forgot to mention that you will be sorry if you change from a 900 cook top to a 600, the 900 gives better space for pots, say when wanting to make pasta, fry pan and large pasta pot, totally agree with Nicole re the pantry. Would you be able to work the pantry so that the fridge is facing the Island this would allow you to have a double wall oven in it's place, there's not a lot of space for side by side 600 ovens in your floorplan

Thanks for all the feedback, particularly in relation to the entrance into the pantry. Agree and we'll look to change that around. I think the main reason it's on that way is due to my wife wanting a pantry door on there. Would it make better sense to have a small wall (nib wall?) on the dining side of the hallway so that the bench was the same all away along?

We cant really move the pantry any further back so not sure we can fit the fridge in he space in front of the island. Maybe it's easier to stick with gas and just run a bottle to the side of the house.

@siriuskey - can you further explain how you would have the door into the butlers as I'm not sure a cavity slider would fix on the left hand side. Cheers and thanks again for your thoughts.

You have only allowed 600mm for the fridge. Is this an integrated fridge? Although 600mm depth fridges are available they are not standard. Typically fridges are deeper. You also need to allow space for airflow behind the fridge if you have a standard fridge.

Go 80-90cm for the cooktop if you can afford it. For the added space rather than number of cooking zones. 60cm can be a bit squishy. You’ll be saving $300 a year by not having a gas connection so use that to invest in a bigger cooktop.

Ergonomically, wall ovens are preferable, side by side if you have the room as then they ban be at the ideal height. Stacked if you are pressed for space. Lifting heavy items out of under bench ovens is not good for your back, especially if you plan to live in this house into old age.

Dishwasher placement is not good, as above.

I’m going to buck the butlers pantry trend here. apart from hiding mess, this walk in pantry doesn’t add anything to the usability of the space. It feels intrusive and closes down the kitchen. Without the walls that enclose the pantry you could have a much longer island bench (which I think is more useful) and still have the same amount of storage and bench space that is currently in the pantry. It would give your kitchen a much more open feeling.

Is there any way to put two stacked wall ovens where the fridge is? And consider moving the fridge & building into cabinetry beside the pantry? Without seeing the rest of your plan, I’m not sure if that will resolve the problem for you.

While this layout isn't the same, this is the location I'm referring to for the fridge. The grey cabinetry beside the white kitchen would be your wall oven tower. And the space between the ovens and the fridge would be your opening for your walk in pantry. Sorry I couldn't find anything better right now - have to wrangle a few little kidlets and sort breakfast, beds, lunches and get them on their way for the day :) I'll pop in later and see if I can't find some more photos.

Thanks Wild Heart for the feedback. I think ideally we'd like to keep the butlers pantry as it just gives that extra area to keep things out of the way when guests are there etc. Especially things like kettles, toasters etc. In terms of the fridge depth I hadn't noticed this, I've just looked at our current fridge and with the space for ventilation its 740mm deep....... We'll need to come up with something as this will look ridiculous with the fridge coming out at least 140 mm. I'll post up the rest of the plan for the lower floor but really wanted that open living and dining area flowing into the alfresco area.

So I think realistically, based on the feedback provide above (which I really appreciate!), there maybe some more pressing issues. Should we keep the 900m gas and then look at the following:

1. How to increase depths between island to 1000mm

2, Where is the better placement for the dishwasher

3. Look at the opening on the butlers pantry door and if we need a door on there at all

4. How to better place the fridge so that it's not sticking out nearly 140mm

Hi Craig, as genkil mentioned the kitchen is too small for a WIP and the example photo that " The wild hear"t posted is a great suggested layout by using the WIP space as part of the kitchen and then as per your plan you have your laundry next to that.

In your previous post you were trying to reduce the over all length of the house which is OK but to squeeze the busiest room in the house into a small space would be a big mistake. What kitchen facility will you have for your wife's planned child minding business

based on Nic's suggestion a wall oven and microwave could be stacked in the pantry facing the kitchen and a 90cm electric cooktop over an optional extra 60 or 90 wide oven but the pantry would need to be deeper to allow for a cavity sliding door with the bonus of more open shelves above and below 60cm deep counters

That’s good awesomelouise... but I actually had in mind the fridge being where you have the ovens & the ovens where you have the fridge lol... it’s sounding like an episode of Get Smart ;) the depth of the fridge maybe exclude that as an option potentially though.

Hi Craig, I still think the kitchen is too small for the house as it is and would be better to open up the spaces.

This is a rough idea which gives you a hidden corner pantry, the shelves are all cut as an "L" shape so you have visual and access to everything stored

. This also puts the fridge in a better position,with a larger Island and more storage, and now with a longer back wall you can have Wall ovens 900 cook top and sink with DW.

This could also allow direct access to the alfresco from the kitchen and an out door kitchen BBQ on the same wall as the kitchen cabinets.

Having a young family you don't want to be standing in a cupboard cleaning up, just ensure that you have the newer larger deep square sinks they really help swallow any mess

Craig by your drawings the depth of fridge space and bench is 700mm. Not 600mm. Definitely install a 900mm cooktop.

Craig, just as a note, Your plans show you are having a window splashback behind cooktop, the bench space will actually be around 750mm, because there is no wall, just the window.

Hi Dreamer, yes the bench top can be deeper at the splash back window but the wall will still be below the bench top as it will behind any wall cabinets or fridge, ie the depth of the cabinets and any appliances will still be measured from the wall and not the window. cheers

Just wanted ensure that Craig understood that there wasn't any extra depth available for the fridge position he's considering ( hope he changes that idea) he can't afford to use anymore floor space in his posted plan
