The only thing that is really ugly with this bathroom is the floor tiles and old shower screen. I'm all for getting new shower screen install. Repaint the whole bathroom with tile paint and for the floor get good quality water marine grade merbau timber and put timber decking over the bathroom floor. New shower head and tap fittings if you see fit.

The funny thing is; if I verbally explain it to people they seem generally unsure or negative, but those same people, having seen in person say they're in love with it. Maybe its just people being conservative or scared to take risks? I am in the suburbs, but its an ensuite, and its EXTREMELY large for an ensuite (those black tiles are 600mm sqr.). I dont know if its "deco" - perhaps I dont understand what that style is (i thought 'deco' was 50s-60s style) - but I was shooting for a bathroom you might find in a high-class hotel. The master bedroom has it's own hallway - to give it the illusion that it is tucked away from the rest of the house. Clean lines, simple, luxurious. I'm trying very hard to "pull back" on it - keep the pallet simple, and try not to over-complicate it. I've kinda had to make it up in my head as I go along; there isn't much in the way of inspiration I could use to guide the way (at my budget). Even those flat, gloss black tiles were EXTREMELY difficult to source. But thanks so much for your comments guys and gals.

And to answer your question siriuskey. Yes the front room has been opened out into a verendah. This room got really hot in summer so wasn’t working as another living space. We’re restricted to what we can change at the front of the house as we are in a heritage area. We can make changes without a DA if we don’t change the front of the house. Agree we can change a lot with a wooden house, but I think we’ll be restricted on reusing windows. All our casement windows are original glass from the 1930s so won’t be to modern building code. If we move them, they’re gone. However replacing with modern glass would bring more light into the home. We’ve put fans in all rooms and always have the French doors open in bed 2 so light and ventilation haven’t been an issue. Might become so if we put a moody teenager in there though!

Hello Sam, I can see this working without creating the internal room that Sirusekey did in her plan Making a powder room with its own basin on the hinge side of the room. I am sure you can keep some of the cupboard and make a larger shower with bath and vanity, then a cav slider to ensuite with shower, vanity and loo under window: small but all there. The cav slider is a must to get in and out of the room and you have the robe to assist with another level of privacy. Tis good: will work. Cheers Margot
