Comments (16)I have just read an article that says that open plan living has had it's day and people are wanting to return to more separate 'zones' and one of the suggested ways to achieve this was a sunken living room, it continued by showing photos of recent houses constructed with them, and as I quite like the idea! But I do wonder about all the extra unnecessary trips and falls that will happen! PRO7 years agolast modified: 7 years agoHi Ruby, Great looking space! Agree with all those above: you need to find an artwork that you love for the space above the sofa - particularly since it will be reflected in the mirror opposite.
Artwork is always a very personal choice - from your ideabooks it seems you like botanical illustration and you could consider a pair of framed prints. For other ideas, feel free to check out our online gallery: this 'treescape' would tie together your highlight colour whilst grounding it to your dark scheme, and the perspex medium suits your polished style.

PRO7 years agoDear Ruby, great that people have sent images of exuberant artwork, but the backdrop of your furnishings also needs attention. Replace the covers of the - seemingly soft blue - cushions with mustard or copper colouring, as there is not enough differentiation in toning, which is probably why everyone is suggesting large bold paintings. I imagine when you walk past every day, the room looks sombre and dour, it needs your personality with added art pieces and a new smashing cover on the wing chair would help:

7 years agoWhile I agree that adding something above the couch will help to balance the space, if you don’t want to buy anything new for the space, you can achieve balance through rearranging what you do have.
By moving the mirror above the couch, adding the flowers onto the left of the bar cart, and moving the small decor items off your first side table onto the brass one, you can achieve balance in the space without having to buy anything new.
At the moment your room is very black heavy on the right hand side. This arrangement balances the black in the room.
