2 or 3 pendant lights?
We moved into a new construction home and are slowly trying to add our own touches to make it our own and look less cookie cutter. I hate the dated looking contractor grade pendant lights currently in the kitchen. I love the look of larger pendants, but 3 of that size would look crowded above our 7 ft island.
Would it work to install two larger pendants where the outer pendants currently are? In this case would it look terrible to have a plate on the ceiling where the center pendant was? I haven’t talked to an electrician yet, but I wasn’t sure how that would work with the existing wiring. Even if the hole could be covered, the current ceiling has an orange peel texture and would be hard to match up.

I’d seeking some advice for pendant lighting design and layout, and would love your input and ideas for the following choices: Colours: Brushed Gold, Polished Brass, Wood, white, or something else?? The house has a scandi-feel, with lots of timber, whites and brushed metal and black glass for appliances Number of pendants: 3, 5 or more?? The dining room table is 2.7 m long, so there’s a large area to light up Arrangement: straight line, symmetrically offset, or in between? The cathedral ceiling height is 5.5 m so there’s lots of room to play with, and kitchen area has lots of straight lines Style: standard conical or something more creative?? Comments (9)I don’t think it’s had it’s day, but it depends on the overall look of your kitchen, it sounds modern and minimal. Do you have a pic or plans ? How high is the ceiling? If you have a standard 2400 height ceiling, I’d suggest going with a sleek linear style pendant, it doesn’t need to run the full length of the bench either....See More

4 years agoI like the 3. I have an 8 foot island and started with 2 but ended up having them change it to 3 smaller lights.

4 years agoCould you do something like this? Comes in several finishes. I feel you could get the ceiling repaired and not be able to tell.

These are larger than your current pendants. Your island, at first glance, seems of similar size. In the photo above the fixtures don't seem particularly crowded. I do like the idea of a linear fixture that others here have proposed. Good luck!
