What colour rugs and furniture for a honey-coloured floor?

My floors are more yellow than most wooden floors. I couldn't find any good floor colours to compare at IKEA.

For furniture and rugs, I was thinking light-grey, light-beige, or off-white?

I'd prefer the lighter colours rather than darker browns, but happy for any and all suggestions. I'm a complete newb to interior design, so spare no detail!

Walls are cream and blinds are white. House is a raised Queenslander with a white picket fence and mid-dark-blue and white exterior.

Hi Paul,
Gorgeous floors, you can use any colour , to keep it light choose a light coloured rug and sofas, add colour in artwork, you could add contrasting chairs for a very stylish look, even a touch of black in accessories will add a sophisticated look

Thanks Julie! I had trouble finding example designs with yellow-er floors, so these are much appreciated. :)

The photo below is my suggestion for colour of floor. Furniture should be darker - similar to below. For the rug - choose one colour from the artwork and find a similar coloured rug. Don't put a mantle over the fireplace - it could be a health hazard - bumps and bruises. Blinds - unless you want them to make a statement I think white - to match window frames would be fine.

I tend to lean towards a relaxed coastal look. With your colours I’d add some warmth with wood and texture. These stools are very comfy and would look good with your kitchen colours. A taupe or grey sofa over a neutral large rug, sisal or wool blend, with a wooden coffee table. Do you have colours you like? Do you have any art to work with? I would recommend assistance if you’re outfitting a whole house. Have a look at Katrina Chambers on the web and Instagram. She’ll put together mood boards for your rooms and do a shopping guide. Her prices are good and she doesn’t recommend furniture that you sell an organ to buy.

My friend had similar coloured floors. Before he sold his home he had it styled. Wow, what a difference it made. The designers used light coloured furniture and more pastel coloured accessories. It complemented the floors so well.

Hello, you can take inspiration from Scandinavian

style interiors as they often have light floor boards, or go more coastal.

I would keep everything pretty light either way.

Do you have any furniture you are wanting to put in there ? Does any of it have any colour ?

I like the light floor colour , the rest let's just say it is a good neutral base .

I'd start with a new front door -- a darker varnished ( glossy ) wooden door , or possibly even a blue to reference your outside .

Then add colour via furniture ( or at least cushions ) , rugs , and artwork . Again , maybe several different blues would tie in with the floor , but also the exterior . If there are only blue exterior highlights , you may want to go for warmer colour inside -- reds , yellows , oranges -- again , ties in with the floor .

To this end , I can't understand why people go with 117 shades of grey and offwhite and wheat -- live a colourful life is my attitude , as long as it is themed haha !

My first thought a beautiful rich looking Turkish/Persian/Aztec rug, with deeps reds, greens, blacks and beige's, and then keeping it nice and light/white with the furniture. However a Moroccan beni ourain rug in a lighter colour would also work beautifully :)

You don't need to decorate to the floor colour. That room could pull off any look you desire. I'll refrain from stating my own colour preferences. Instead just find a picture on pinterest or somewhere of a room you like and choose accessories to match that. No matter what scheme you go with, in there it will look good.
