I was about 12 when I got my own room. Previously I shared a room with my mother as she was widowed. I chose the wall colours, aqua, a brownish colour and two burnt orange walls. Sounds dreadful but the colours were more subtle than they sound. I had an aqua chenille bedspread and and blue and white see through curtains that blew in the breeze. Out of my window I could see an orchard of plum trees. On the floor was a patterned carpet with a rim of polished floorboards (only the edges polished). A bookshelf, a desk, a wardrobe, a dressing table and my grandmother’s sandalwood glory box furnished the room. Love this post as it brought back memories of the 1960s for me.

I didn't notice the leather @Neryl Hollingsworth! It's a chair-table hybrid it seems. My friend took this at a gallery some where, and we've been trying to track the piece down ever since!

Laundry drains can really pong when they're seldom used - the water in the trap can disappear and you get a vile sewer smell. Before going to expensive and highly caustic chemicals try 1 cup of bicarb of soda and half a litre of white vinegar down Let it sit for an hour then follow up by pouring boiling water down the sink and see if that helps - you can do it a couple of times - I do mine every few weeks (kitchen and laundry). You could also run your washing machine (empty) on the hottest possible was with a good amount of bleach in it to help. If it's the rangehood - don't be surprised so many people forget to clean them - pull out the filters and wash them (mine go into the bottom rack of the dishwasher on the highest temperature setting).
