House needs freshening up!
Comments (2)What are you going to replace the lino and carpet with? Is it a concrete slab underneath or timber boards? You have a lot of timber in the home already I note and if you love it that's fine but timber floors as well might be a bit overwhelming. I'd like to see some consistency throughout eg some beams are painted and others not. You could do a glass balustrade which is not going to impose itself on the area but it may not be rustic enough. It's a tough one. As for rugs, you first need to decide whether you want a traditional or modern look and take it from there. Persian rugs can look beautiful with either either but as your furniture is quite traditional some modern rugs could lift the mood. I'd certainly ditch the light fittings with fringes and go for simple barrel shades. And I'm pretty sure I'd paint the timber wall in the kitchen/dining. And please, please ditch the lace curtains if you do nothing else....See MoreSprucing up the powder room

Comments (12)Thanks for the reply. The attached floor plan probably gives you a better idea of the whole property (including the upstairs). To answer your questions: - We would require 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms (which the house already has). - The only extension that would be available is the 'Deck' area which is why we wanted to extend the kitchen into that area. we thought to leave the courtyard as is and have bifold doors which open out on to that. - The floor plan gives you an idea of where north is (towards the front of the house) - in terms of views, the front of the house (where the rooms are) face the main street . there are no real good or bad views in any direction, just the street and neighbouring houses.. - upstairs is only a converted attic bedroom with a roof storage joining this room. - Most of the house is original except from the start of the deck onwards. There is a tiled pitched roof and we have quite high ceilings through almost all of the house except the very back part (laundry) . the very back couple of metres (laundry and back part of the dining area) is an extension which has a metal roof. - There is a subfloor; part of this has been converted into garage/storage. The walls are built off brick footing. External walls are cavity brick and internal walls are single brick. we are fairly happy with the overall size of the house as is. our main priorities are to have a more open plan living area (as the house is too compartmentalised currently), to have a bigger kitchen, more built in storage, and just to update kitchen/bathrooms, make the 2nd bathroom into an ensuite for main bed....See MoreBoring living room needing a design spruce!
Comments (1)Hi K K, Megan from Bluethumb online art gallery here. It looks like you've got a really neutral set of furniture to work with, which means you can really take the space into many directions decor-wise! I definitely agree that an artwork would look great on the wall next to the dining table. Also some bright cushions on the couch, and perhaps a rug could give the space a breath of fresh air. Check out our blog post on colour blocking your space to see how you could link the colours to the artwork: https://bluethumb.com.au/blog/artists/embrace-colour-block-trend-art/. This is really trending in interior design right now. As for some artwork suggestions, I've got a small list, however you've worked with neutral timbers and blacks in your furniture choices, you could really choose anything. I've gone with some abstracts that I think will really work with your modern furniture. https://bluethumb.com.au/haruyomorita/Artwork/Soul-Portrait-2015-3 I've gone and mocked this up for you, so you can see how an artwork would look on that wall. If you prefer a more monochrome palette, these are two of our most popular artists: https://bluethumb.com.au/marnie-mcknight/Artwork/aspen-marnie-mcknight https://bluethumb.com.au/maggi-mcdonald/Artwork/splash-dance-161610 Or the kids might appreciate a more colourful approach, these are from our staff picks selection: https://bluethumb.com.au/natasha-todino/Artwork/charanamiee-vs-squid https://bluethumb.com.au/lauren-daly/Artwork/desert-rose-lauren-daly https://bluethumb.com.au/susie-monte/Artwork/ariel-susie-monte Let me know if you'd like any more mocked up, any specific coloured artworks or some in a different style. Hope this helps! Megan...See Moredreamer
