As with any colour, you have to consider how other colours in the room with impact. This is particularly so with white. For example the hue in floorboards and floor coverings will reflect off the white and impact the final result as will, room direction and seasons. For natural white to look peachy, there must be other factors at play, for example, golden tone flooring with a room facing daytime sun (north in southern hemisphere or south in northern hemisphere.)

We have done all of the downstairs open plan area in Caspar white quarter. Skirts done in same colour in gloss with vivid white ceiling & cornice. We had a4 samples of 4 Dulux whites: Snowy Mountains 1/2, white exchange 1/2, white polar 1/4. Moved the samples to every room with hubby & wrote down which we preferred. Tried them in north and south rooms in day and night light. CW1/4 was hands down the favourite. It looks great - crisp & clean with no blue, we love it. Photos were taken at night. Hope this helps.

Thank God someone talking about the effects of light and surrounding colour (and furnishings) when choosing a white (or any paint). So sick of reading about how 'bad' vivid white is on walls. I have put a paint sample up on the walls of my (poor natural lighting) unit, and it looks great, as well as being a good foil/contrast to the colours in the furniture I am painting. Tried white on white, which looks great in the pot, only to look 'dirty' on the walls. Vivid white in my unit doesn't look 'clinical', but 'clean', and most importantly, looks 'white' instead of slightly yellow or grey, or worse, like the walls haven't been cleaned in a decade. And the place looks brighter and more welcoming because more light is being reflected off the walls (and as I said, there is not enough of that to begin with). And as an FYI, yes, vivid white is an untinted Dulux colour, and is used as a base. However, I was just talking to a paint shop retailer of a different brand who I have been getting some supplies off, and he said that the Dulux vivid white base is actually slightly yellower than their base (Luxury paints base), which is very white. So even the much disparaged vivid white isn't a 'pure' white. And I did notice that when I put it up on the walls of my unit. The current white is very similar, but more yellow, but I was surprised there wasn't as much of a difference as I expected. Just goes to show the effect of a) the surrounding colour and b) the light a room gets.

Choosing the right white is hard - so many options and they look different in every home. We are renovating our home and have new Blackbutt floors with mainly oak and teak wood furniture. Dulux has large a4 swatches for $1 that you can move from room to room easily without lots of patches on the wall. We purchased these for the 4 whites we were considering. We then numbered them on the front to make things easy and put them in every room in morning and artificial/evening light. We wrote down our preference for each room. While different whites work better in different rooms, by the end of the process we had a clear winner - Caspar White Quarter. A beautiful fresh white without any blue tones in our space. We painted this throughout with same colour in satin on the skirting.
