Brand new Industrial Modern house in Rosebud VIC
Comments (37)The next one - the Scandi/Industrial one is to build and sell. The one after, 'should ' be the last one - the forever house. Re: the shipping container. We did do all the work ourselves - well my husband fitted out the container and an attached caravan in two weeks! At the conclusion of the build of the house pictured, we put the whole lot up for sale and ended up selling it to a family that was doing the same thing in country NSW. We've started a business called Container Homes R Us with the plan to make little homes for people, not so much houses made of shipping containers - cause in our opinion, that costs more than just building a standard home but making it look like a container. We probably couldnt start anything till next year though, which gives customers time to think about their design....See MoreTile or wooden skirting boards painted white in a new modern home??
Comments (21)Levarne Sobotker....although the tiles are beautiful you are very brave having those very glossy tiles throughout your whole house...from experience of having glossy tiles - they show every mark and really need cleaning multiple times a week - and you can't just mop very glossy tiles because the water marks show when they dry on - so you have to do small areas at a time and dry as you go - it will take an age to clean them if you have them through a whole house. We have gloss tiles in a couple of bathrooms and I would never choose them again. They are also very slippery when wet....See MoreI live in a Mid-Century Modern house that requires some new flooring.
Comments (8)Nathan - they are great tiles. From my own experience with tiles like this I would be keeping them as they are of good quality and will last forever. There are various qualities of engineered floorboards, ranging from the cheap and nasty to the beautiful and expensive. However all of them will be thicker than your tiles, especially if you need a floor-levelling compound for the old slab. Larger format tiles tend to be thicker, so if you are going to use tiles then look at small format tiles. Don't try to match, but find something small and thin that complements. Have a look at these which are thinner than your existing tiles, and a good tiler will be able to lay them level with your existing tiles: https://www.oldeenglishtiles.com.au/collections/contemporary-tessellated-patterns/products/hexagon-150mm?variant=8202164142196 There are other shapes and colours available that won't detract from what you currently have, and will complement the rest of your mid-century modern home without the change in level. Comments (88)Another option instead of a light well is to have a glass floor section in the ground floor just above were the stairs lands. and open the wall in the sitting room/use steps hanging in a wire. so there is plenty of light coming in one side of stairs plus light above the landing area. this brings some cool features to the house, which i am already thinking to have a glass floor section somewhere and a mesh floor section somewhere probably in the first floor above entry. Light is not an issue anymore again the big question is when you enter do you want to see the stairs going up or down. Hmm.. tough decision to make...See Morecatb2013
