Feature Needed - Art Option?

I love our ensuite, it works perfectly for us. My photography is poor and it’s a very very overcast day here, so it’s not showing to its best advantage but it’s quite a nice space aesthetically too. I love the high ceilings, the very pale blue walls, the textured feature wall and the blackheart sassafras’s elements, but it needs some colour.

I was thinking an art piece, placed on the wall to the left of the vanity but, in such a humid environment, I’m concerned about the damage that might occur. I’ve considered something 3D, but the limited items I’ve seen are giving me a 70s throwback feel.

We have a tastic, so a light fitting is not really a suitable choice either, but I’m open to any suggestions.

My budget doesn’t stretch to anything bespoke but I don’t want anything too generic either. Has anyone got any suggestions, pls?

What about a couple of towel hooks and hang towels to add colour, I see you have a grey washer on the tap spout.

I hung a canvas in my bathroom. I did spray it with some varnish back and front. No issues and I have no window so it is like my view. Also have had framed postcards before again no issues. Towels are a good way as well as flowers on vanity to add colour

Now cute! And love the idea of a 3 x 3 grid!!! I would be fine with just the canvas and no frames. I think they would pop on the wall more being right next to it without a frame changing that effect.

Hi Sarah, hope you enjoyed your travels last night, that's something we have spent our lives doing plus living in different countries. Do look into the attic room/s they are lovely and the Velux skylights very unobtrusive, look great and if positioned correctly take care of venting any hot air, as I mentioned ours were pivoting ones and could be locked open in several positions. I much prefer these to dormer windows, you don't really notice them. The stairs were built off site and lifted into position and installed, built in. At the time we did ours a very good friend a builder did the same but just completely opened the whole ceiling space right out towards the gutters into a large bedroom play study area for his daughters, also using Velux windows. Glass ceilings, like Velux windows have been around for years, believe me I know, we're both getting older. Velux windows can be used as glass ceilings in opening and non opening configurations. I would love to see you keep the outdoor loo as well and updating the old shed into a new connecting space to the house, perhaps a glass breezeway. I will have another look at your plan again over the weekend. I love your front iron gate as well, auto sliding driveway gates work really well and would really fit with your carport. My brother in law put in a tall timber sliding gate at his last home, lovely cheers

Artwork is always such a personal choice but feel free to check out our online gallery: since the eye is otherwise drawn to the outside, you might find one of our 'treescapes' works well - we offer them in neutrals as well as with a touch of natural colour. An art print in a $30 Kmart frame would look great and not be a crazy investment if it didn’t last. For prints look at Grotti Lotti, Anya Brock, Carley Bourne or Steph Brooke. All Australian and non-generic. Or for quite a budget option you can look on Etsy and get a digital download which can be printed at Office Works or Kmart. I love art in a bathroom.

How beautiful is your ensuite, just by adding a few items and it could look amazing, as big reader says grab an art print and Kmart frame and you have a striking piece for under $50, adding a timber piece to compliment the vanity, hanging towels on hooks looks great, also maybe a small stool near bath could just tie it all together, it’s just choosing your favourite colour and go from there.

It is really white ! I like the textures , but I just wonder if you take a more co-ordinated approach -- there are 2 niches -- I'd look at doing the 4 sides of each of them in timber the same as the vanity , and then really double down with a larger mirror with a big chunky frame in the same timber , either above the toilet or the bath . I know some people don't want too many mirrors in a bathroom , but hey , why not scare yourself every now and then haha !

Then bring in a bit of colour -- add towels , but also a larger bathmat ( water resistant rug ) , either all in the same colour , but I also like the idea of two contrasting but complimentary colours -- it will add interest but alsdo complement the whites . Two blues is pretty predicatble ( and 'cold' IMO ) , but what about say a lighter yellow and a strong mustard , for example ?

It is really white…only broken up with the beautiful timber vanity. I have canvas artwork in my bathrooms. Never a problem. Artwork will definitely give the bathroom a lift.

And could I also suggest to change the power point cover. They are an essential item, so might as well look pretty.

Thx everyone, will definitely go for a large, richly coloured canvas, print or maybe even a photo. And I’ll also swap out my little plant with something with a bit of height, maybe even replace the pink phalaenopsis I had there originally even if I need to do so on an annual basis. I think it will only need those small touches to give it the lift it needs to fit our style. I do have two towel rings, one at the exit and one near the shower and my towels are aqua / turquoise, so they do add to the ambiance. Also below is the blackheart stool / table my son made for me which matches the vanity and mirror frame, also his work, and beautifully figured but doesn’t show well with the light today and my less than stellar photography. I promise everyone it’s not as all white as it appears, the blue walls do show up irl 😊. Special shoutout to Pottsy 9 and a bit, I needed a smile today and you delivered in spades.

Your pink and aqua towels reminded me of this print. I have two similar in my work office. Just in Kmart/ikea wood tone frames and they always get compliments.

I'd buy something cheap now, but keep your eye out for something special and 3D. My purchases like this are when I'm on holidays and have time to poke around arty/crafty shops. In the photos, the fish has been hanging in my bathroom for over 4 years and no problems. It's papier mache but finished in a clear varnish. The gecko is metal finished in car paint! It's currently outside where it gets rained on.
