How do I remove old mixer

im having an issue replacing old mixer as i cant find the nut.

Normally a lug nut at the side. But if you find a similar mixer on a plumb8mg website you can follow the installation instructions in reverse.

Hi RePete, another app for drafting is Home Sweet Home which is free. My experience has been that some of the really good architects are happy to share their ideas when they visit as they enjoy the creative process so much. Eg Williams Burton met with us years ago (we are still figuring out what to do!) - and I was very impressed. We didn't use them as they are very fastidious so their builds take a long time and we can't cope with that but they do some amazing work on character homes in particular and although people think of them as only doing very expensive jobs, I am aware that they have also done some cheaper jobs where the project has got their interest. You could try talking to them and a few others from that "tier". I can't remember if we paid for the initial meeting, but if we did it was only a very small amount. I would seek as many views as possible (including here), keep trawling the net and pinterest as well as Houzz, look at lots of magazines etc, go to every open home that is vaguely like your style and ask the real estate agent who designed/built it... (hmmmm this is why we haven't started building yet after 8 years...) As Ok says, probably the only person that can determine what accommodation is required is you, so make that thought process a parallel one to looking at pictures. Good luck.

I had the same railing that is listed in the original post. Mine had a circular pin that has a larger diameter at the top and smaller underneath. I didn't have access to get anything underneath due to where some monkey had installed it (ie just above the soap dish and shower hob) but I believe if you use the correct side drift you can tap the pin out from underneath driving it upwards. Once that pin is removed at either end of the railing the rail will come loose from the end wall pieces. It is then a matter of just removing the fastner that holds the wall pieces on to the wall. In my case as I didn't want to keep the railing I just used a hacksaw between where the pin is and the wall to cut it off, once those sections were cut off I could unscrew the wall pieces.

I wouldn't leave it to the pool renovators and their concretors to decide. If they misjudge and it cracks open in a few years then will they be around to pay for relaying new limestone? I would engage an engineer to assess the condition of the concrete under the brick coping and design the joint (possibly with rods and chemset), allowing for adequate expansion joints for the new concrete and the new limestone. Engineers tend to be more conservative than concretors when it comes to design. Engaging an engineer to design this joint will cost you more in the short term, but nothing will be left to chance. Who knows there may be a better way to connect than rods and chemset - let your engineer advise. You can then get a competitive quote from the two pool companies for the same thing. Just dont go with timber decking around a pool as it looks so dated and needs lots of maintenance. Best of luck, Dr Retro of Dr Retro House Calls

The whole place has that 'of a certain period' look , but I suspect it can be done . The 'reverse' side of the bench in pic 1 has to go -- it looks cheap veneer that has overstayed its welcome ! Black or white gloss Formica or similar would lift that . The lino would need be modernised -- maybe tiles , maybe just 50 year newer lino , or wood planks would look mutual and modern , and reference the benchtop too . The wall tiles ditto -- remove and replace . Gloss white or black or charcoal . Or a colourful splashback , either the full width or maybe as a centrepiece 1.5-2 metres long , in a red or green or yellow or similar . Above that paint in ( I shiver as I write this ) grey . Maybe a 'frieze' of contrasting but complementary subway tiles , attached vertically to add some bulk . Ordinarily , I'd suggest cupboards or even shelves or a display cabinet above that , but anything added would look so out of place it would be hard to pull off , unless you matched the timber benchtop , and that would be difficult . And presumably change the cupboard handles -- a trendier stainless or chrome design would tie in with the sink unit .

There doesnt look like there is a nut anywhere. ive tried to twist the black plastic and it doesnt work.

The mixer is joined to the flexible hoses. You disconnect the flexible hoses from the main connection under the sink, in the cupboard. You then pull the entire mixer and attached flexible hoses up through the sink hole.

Extract from bathroom direct.

Turn the water supply off completely at the stops and check that it does stop the supply
Undo the hoses from the stops with your spanner. They'll usually unscrew fairly easily by hand once you've loosened the grip
Loosen the nut under the bench that's holding the old mixer in place using your ratchet hex set or spanner
Once you've done this the old mixer tap is ready to remove.

Simply lift it out of the hole slowly, bringing the hoses with it. You may need to fiddle around with the ends of the hoses to bring them through the hole one by one. They certainly won't come out at the same time because of the fittings at the end of each hose.

Usually on new taps the flexi hoses attach directly to the base of the mixer tap. It appears from your photo that the flexible hoses have been connected to some form of piping, not to the base of the tap. This does not look correct, and you did say it was old, so maybe the previous person who attached the new flexible hoses had to improvise. Therefore no nut to hold the tap in place. I would be consulting a plumber to attach all the new components correctly, and remove the old tap components and extra pipes.

Thanks dreamer. Exactly thought id find a nut ad pictured but nope. Called in a plumber to fix as worst case will need to grind off the old system. very odd situation in my mind.
