What style ottoman to go with our black leather sofa?
Comments (7)I do like your idea of an ottoman instead of a traditional coffee table. Since you have a fairly mod/hip style going, you should find something equal. I do like the one that is tufted all around but of course in some other color for your room. Something low and sleek....See MorePlease help with our lounge room styling
Comments (5)Thank you for your comments and your sympathies, it is a difficult room to work with. But there is a light at the end of the tunnel, behind the far wall is an enclosed garage which is used as a storage space and we are in the process of getting a shed built to move everything out of there and extend out, so the room will become more of a rectangle rather than a square and everything should fit into place nicely! We have tried different variations of furniture placement which did look nicer but weren't practical for the age of our kids, like Lego at our feet when sitting on the couch etc. I think we will leave the furniture as it is for now, however I love some of your ideas. Good point about the shag, that's gone, I will have a look for a low pile wool rug. choices flooring have some nice styles I like. I hadn't thought of incorporating a blue or terracotta toned rug, that could work well to better hide stains. I love the idea of artwork, what would you suggest, something abstract? Incorporating colours from the room or more a statement piece? I also love the idea of adding more circular elements and also a lamp to add height. Do you have any suggestions for either one? I'm also concerned the room is a bit impersonal, do you agree? Please keep the ideas coming....See MoreNeed help restyling our open plan area
Comments (13)Hi there, Your couches are gorgeous. Just quickly, I’d swap the dining table and two single yellow arm chairs. Then I’d rotate the table 90 degrees if possible. I think if I were going to make any furniture purchases I would first replace all the dark furniture (dining table and bench seats) with white furniture to help bounce some light around. Dark furniture absorbs light like crazy. Thoughts on the kitchen reno would be to keep the bench top and splashback white and then accent with yellow and black. Timber usually softens and warms a space so maybe something like that for the cabinetry but timber isn’t the only finish to provide that feel. This leads into my next thought that white, black and deep yellow can appear quite harsh so maybe some some soft furnishings like some fluffy pillows and rug and a couple of throws might help bring some gentleness and cosy-ness into the space. All the best with it and love to see what you do with the space....See MoreHelp me - What should i put with my marri furniture and black leather
Comments (6)Jodie, Dr Retro is on point with comments/advice.....this goes for all decision making in building/renovating/design/interiors etc...it's about balancing and identifying what is the feature and being consistent/appropriate to the ideal direction. If you want to keep your furniture then great but you need to work to it an it will to a certain degree define the project direction - so be clear/confident about this and let the feature elements "breathe" and not be over taken by the secondary aspects - it's actually really really hard to do in this day and age with so many "on trend" things being pushed in your face from all angles. I try and advise clients to be true to themselves and learn to understand/clarify with confidence what they like and why and this can take time to educate/gain knowledge/understanding in this regard.....I agree with Retro - try and go for finishes that are offsetting/contrasting to the significant timber furniture feature as otherwise you'll risk having timber overload ;) Hope this helps, good luck :) PD...See MoreB
