I have installed pebble tiles in several showersPros - very elegant, gives a sense of space as pebbles are different so no long defining linesCons - difficult to clean, must determine at outset if you want the stones deep in grout (you see lots more grout but the surface is smoother) or not so deep (you see less grout, but the surface is bumpier).Some people recommend epoxy grout, I don't for the simple reason it is much harder to get the grouting even with pebbles than tiles so more time needs to be taken.

It can either look really dramatic or too dark, depending on the size of the room as well as your other components. I've attached a couple of images of our work using dark tiles, the smaller bathroom we have surrounded the bath with dark tiles but then balance it with an extra large mirror to bounce the light around the room. The larger bathroom we have taken the floor colour way onto the wall but used a different texture on the walls for drama. Hopefully this gives you more of an idea but you shouldn't to nervous of the room being dark, it's where you can create a contrast as well as textures. if the budget allows for it, porcelain tiles are my recommendation. They look better, have smaller grout lines, can get them to look like any modern stone, like marble, granite, travertine or even available in wood look slats. My hot tip is the less grout the better, which means the smaller the tile the more grout lines, stay away from mosaic on the floor, I've seen too often these being ripped out because the grout dates and ages from soap scum etc. After seeing grey, black and various colours on floors, I would always go with white on the floor, easy to keep clean and no fading of the tile profile. So I have decided against doing a feature wall on wall running alongside shower as it will make the room too dark. Instead the feature tiles will be on the wall behind the shower mixer. I am now in a quandry re the vanity wall. The floor will be light grey concrete style tiles, walls satin white and the ceiling is a raked ceiling made from baltic pine which over time has gone orangey tone. Do I get a plane white vanity, charred oak timber look (grey), another timber tone? I have decided on 1200 mm wall hung vanity but need help on colour and whether or not I put a mirrored cabinet on wall above vanity also. I originally had decided against any cabinetry above the vanity.
