Folding House
Jakaan Architects & Cory Webb Design collaborated to bring a professional couple’s dream home to life on a breathtaking site atop a sandstone escarpment overlooking the Blue Mountains National Park. The unique location posed significant challenges, including a Flame Zone bushfire rating, requiring close collaboration with a bushfire consultant to ensure compliance with stringent safety requirements while delivering a luxurious and harmonious design.
The residence integrates seamlessly with the natural landscape, embracing rugged sandstone, native flora, and expansive westward views. Corten standing seam cladding and natural materials were selected for their durability and aesthetic appeal, ensuring the home complements its environment. A standout feature of the design is the circular pool, perched dramatically on the sandstone cliff, creating a stunning focal point that enhances the connection to the escarpment's edge.
The clients sought an elevated standard of design, requiring high-end fixtures, finishes, and detailed architectural construction drawings. The home’s interiors balance modern sophistication with a warm, earthy palette, while large openings and bi-fold doors create a seamless indoor-outdoor connection. Highlights include a timber-lined ceiling, polished concrete floors, and expansive living spaces that capture the spectacular views.
Jakaan Architects delivered a bespoke design that harmoniously blends bushfire resilience with luxurious living, offering a thoughtfully crafted, elegant retreat.
