Why we love it: This laid-back but lovely design enables an indoor/outdoor lifestyle all year, not least because of the raised spa in the pool. And look, no lawn to mow.

17. Designer: Brett Mickan Interior Design
Location: Clovelly, NSW
Why we love it: The room’s clean lines enhance its size and outlook. Stacking doors open it right up to the views, a large sliding door can seamlessly seal off the ensuite, and recessed blinds control light and privacy without adding visual clutter. It’s thoughtful details like these that can take a room from standard to stunning.

Location: Aireys Inlet, Victoria
Why we love it: The bush backdrop is enough to make us swoon, but it is the understated interior that has really won us over. The moody greys and blues reflect the bluestone used liberally throughout this home, and creative dollops of colour and pattern have been added with restraint.
