DIY Mother's Day Project: A Flower Votive Candle Holder
Show your appreciation by making an easy decor gift for the mother in your life
This DIY that can be done and dusted in 10 minutes is an affordable and thoughtful way to thank your mother for all that she does.
What you’ll need:
- Mod Podge Matt Varnish
- Brush
- An assortment of dried flowers, petals and leaves
- Clear votive candleholders
Step 1: Paint the votives
Grab a clear votive candleholder and a brush and paint all the sides with Mod Podge glue.
Tip: Put your fingers inside the votive to paint all the sides without leaving fingerprints.

Step 2: Apply flowers
While the glue is still wet, apply your dried flowers by pressing down on them.

Trim the stems with a pair of scissors where they go over the base of the votive or where they lift off the glass. Some of the stem and leaves I used wouldn’t stay flat, so these where removed. Flowers worked the best by far.
Step 3: Second coat
Dab another coat of glue over the flowers and lightly brush down to press onto the glass. Let dry completely. You can speed up the drying process with a hair dryer.

Step 4: Add a light
Drop in a tea light candle in your mum’s favourite scent to finish off your Mother’s Day gift.

These look really beautiful when boxed with some potpourri and some extra tea light candles.
Tip: Never burn your fingers by dropping in a lit tea light again –nor make ugly burn marks on the side of the glass – by trying to light it on its side. To light the candle, get a piece of uncooked spaghetti, light the end and use it as a long matchstick.
