For the Love of Horses
The equine photograph has become a stable trend in decorating
The Melbourne Cup is galloping up fast, and despite all the fabulous fashions and riotous revelries, the race would be nothing without those incredible thoroughbreds that dazzle with their speed, grace and endurance. This year we mark the race that stops the nation with interiors which feature beautiful photographic artworks of the majestic horse.

Equine eye
An up-close image of a horse’s eye and mane creates a serene and restful atmosphere in this bedroom, possibly encouraging sleep and dreams of ponies galloping in fields of flowers.

Pampa pony
The colour and textures of the back of a horse’s head are in perfect harmony with this aged leather sofa. The photograph is part of a larger collection of equine images by Byron Bay-based photographer Victoria Aguirre of Pampa, her store named after where she grew up in Pampa, Argentina.
“I know the personalties of these horses very well because I grew up with them,” Aguirre says. “They represent moments in my life doing what I love the most – taking photos and being surrounded by my family’s horses.”

The mane event
Two horses bump heads in this super-sized black-and-white photograph. The tones of the picture suit the cool and calm colour palette of the room, while the horses’ wind-swept manes add a sense of dynamism to an otherwise very ordered space.

The equine-loving homeowners of this stylish pad in aren’t horsing around with twee horsey decor, instead they have installed an almost floor-to ceiling photograph that features two nuzzling horses. There’s also a horse-head sculpture at the end of the hallway to reflect their animal passion.
