25th Floor Aerie

Traditional Living Room, Miami

Although interior design "stylistas" are emphatic about the decline of mirrored walls, I believe they have their place and play an imporant role in specific design schemes. The case for them is nowhere better illustrated than in this smallish narrow living room. The mirror doubles the size of the view from the 25th floor so that on entering the apartment, visitors get a 180 degree view of the ocean, downtown Miami, and a nature preserve. It also serves to widen and expand the size of the room. The furnishings are simple yet have a bit of flourish and are wisely chosen to make the most of the small space. The glass cocktail table is weightless and takes up little space. Nested glass topped tables can be moved where needed. The sofa is compact, but the curved arms and back add elegance. The light furnishings are grounded by the primarily black oriental rug. Across the room, featured in another photo, are two sizeable fauteuils and a demilune handpainted cabinet. Above it is a three-armed antique brass sconce. Sophisticated ease and elegance best describe this space. Photo by Robin Lechner
