This master bath is a relaxing spa like space for a couple to cool off after a busy day. Vintage looking materials were professionally put together in a modern way to manifest a transitional style. Faded colors have created a romantic foggy space in the soft window light. Design is open and slick in white and gray. Colors and patterns are subtle and sedative while varied in pattern. Mattes were enhanced with chrome and black finishes. Layout was changed, closet was extended, door frame was moved and barn door was added, shower was turned into a modern open square space, and the wall adjacent to the tub was removed. Bathtub, countertop, sinks, flooring, wall tile, backsplash, lights, hardware, and mirrors were all replaced.

The home had gone through an extensive renovation several years earlier that added a master bedroom suite and updates to the front façade. The kitchen however was not part of that update and a prior 1990’s update had left much to be desired. The client is an avid cook, and it was just not very functional for the family. The original kitchen was very choppy and included a large eat in area that took up more than its fair share of the space. On the wish list was a place where the family could comfortably congregate, that was easy and to cook in, that feels lived in and in check with the rest of the home’s décor. They also wanted a space that was not cluttered and dark – a happy, light and airy room. A small powder room off the space also needed some attention so we set out to include that in the remodel as well. See that arch in the neighboring dining room? The homeowner really wanted to make the opening to the dining room an arch to match, so we incorporated that into the design. Another unfortunate eyesore was the state of the ceiling and soffits. Turns out it was just a series of shortcuts from the prior renovation, and we were surprised and delighted that we were easily able to flatten out almost the entire ceiling with a couple of little reworks. Other changes we made were to add new windows that were appropriate to the new design, which included moving the sink window over slightly to give the work zone more breathing room. We also adjusted the height of the windows in what was previously the eat-in area that were too low for a countertop to work. We tried to keep an old island in the plan since it was a well-loved vintage find, but the tradeoff for the function of the new island was not worth it in the end. We hope the old found a new home, perhaps as a potting table. Small master bathroom renovation. Justin and Kelley wanted me to make the shower bigger by removing a partition wall and by taking space from a closet behind the shower wall. Also, I added hidden medicine cabinets behind the apparent hanging mirrors.

Tiny House bathroom Photography: Gieves Anderson Noble Johnson Architects was honored to partner with Huseby Homes to design a Tiny House which was displayed at Nashville botanical garden, Cheekwood, for two weeks in the spring of 2021. It was then auctioned off to benefit the Swan Ball. Although the Tiny House is only 383 square feet, the vaulted space creates an incredibly inviting volume. Its natural light, high end appliances and luxury lighting create a welcoming space.

A spacious pantry in the lower level of this home is the perfect solution for housing decorative platters, vases, baskets, etc., as well as providing additional wine storage. A 19th C pocket door was repurposed with barn door hardware and painted the prefect color to match the adjacent antique bakery sign.

Light and Airy shiplap bathroom was the dream for this hard working couple. The goal was to totally re-create a space that was both beautiful, that made sense functionally and a place to remind the clients of their vacation time. A peaceful oasis. We knew we wanted to use tile that looks like shiplap. A cost effective way to create a timeless look. By cladding the entire tub shower wall it really looks more like real shiplap planked walls. The center point of the room is the new window and two new rustic beams. Centered in the beams is the rustic chandelier.
