Contemporary Kitchen in 16th Century House

Contemporary Kitchen, Surrey

This wonderful 16th Century Character House with interesting features was a great challenge to design. We achieved the “opening out” of the kitchen and made it feel bigger and brighter. The Aga had to be the focal point with the awkward window being replaced with two windows either side to frame the Aga. Once these major factors were in place the rest came together quickly – a nice long island with a prep sink gives a fantastic preparation area and the two stools make it a social area also. The two wet zones are always a bonus if the design allows as more than one person can access a sink. To ensure plenty of storage and to help hide away small appliances and keep clean lines, we designed a breakfast cupboard onto the stone worktop with Bi-Fold doors.
