Contemporary Self-Build Home in Nottinghamshire

Modern Living Room

In the rural Nottinghamshire countryside, a stylish and contemporary new home has been constructed from the ground up. Read the full story of how Phantom Screens played an essential part in future-proofing this stunning property… This modern home in Nottinghamshire stands alone just outside a rural village, with stunning views of rolling fields. A large self-build project, it was still in its early stages when the owners got in touch with Phantom Screens to explore solutions that would protect their new home from insects and farmland dust. View our page for architects and builders here. After a brief phone call, we scheduled a free home survey at a time that was convenient for the customer. Our team then visited the property to take accurate measurements and discuss their needs in detail. Four Power Screens for insect protection were installed – three to the back of the house on sliding doors facing the garden (all 3m wide x 2.6m high). The fourth automatic insect screen was installed to the entrance of the office (located in the garage). Adding a screen to the home office was but crucial for optimising concentration – with superior temperature control and no irritating flies buzzing around. All Power Screens were fitted with 18:14 insect protection mesh. This fabric is our standard mesh and is most effective at stopping the bugs while being easy to see through – leaving garden views intact. The homeowner came to us during the design period meaning there were more installation options.. The modern design of the home demanded the screens be integrated discreetly, so they were recessed into the ceiling, creating a clean finish with the screens disappearing from view when not in use. Two free hanging gravity drop motorised roller blinds (or Power Blinds for short!) were installed to the sliding doors in the open plan kitchen / living space. These were tailormade in our factory to fit our customers’ exact requirements (2.8m wide x 2.1m high to be precise). Pairing screens and blinds together provided our customer with ultimate control over solar glare and insect ingress. Perfect for large openings with bifold or sliding doors, automated Power Screens can fit door openings up to 12m wide. Sleek and stylish, it’s no wonder our world-famous Power Screens are popular with celebrities! Learn more about them in our FAQs or by getting in touch with our team of Phantom experts here. The automated screens and blinds can be operated by wall switch, remote control, and by smart devices through the Somfy app. The ability to deploy the screens and blinds remotely can provide some assurance and extra security – such as when you’re out and want the house to look as though it’s occupied. In addition to keeping bugs out, screens allow fresh air to circulate through your home, which can help keep it feeling cool and comfortable. This can be especially beneficial during the summer months, when you may be running your air conditioner more often. Using screens can reduce your reliance on cooling, which in turn can save you money on energy bills. The addition of Power Screens and Power Blinds has completely enhanced our customers’ everyday living and home office working. Though the homeowners hadn’t thought of this solution for previous properties, they say they wish they’d known about them before!
