A Late 14th century distinctive, rural building with a Grade II listing. Our clients were working on internal renovations and extensions prior to the construction of the garden. When they approached Aralia they were requiring a contemporary garden to match the redeveloped interior rooms. The family orientated space that we created in the courtyard, was only just a part of a larger garden, but was designed in order to become the more usable area for the family. Aralia used a clean, contemporary design, combined with more traditional references such as the pergola detailing, black metal edge details and the brickwork chosen. This project included a complete re-model of the space into three separate terraces, with surrounding textual planting and specimen trees. Features of the design included a pleached hedge to enable privacy, bespoke fabricated oak and metal pergolas, and atmospheric lighting. Aralia connected the rest of the natural garden through sculpture landform to blend the contemporary and formal with the natural and informal. Other elements of this garden include a Yorkstone edged bed and instant box hedging to frame the views to the front of the property.

Complete front yard re-design, leaving only one existing dogwood tree. All plantings are watered using efficient drip irrigation but will be fairly drought tolerant once established. Spring bulbs are planted throughout, giving a spectacular show before the perennials start filling in for the Summer. Grasses and seed heads remain throughout the winter to add interest, structure, bird seed, and privacy.

This project began in 2015 with a major renovation of the landscape on the side and backyard of this property. First we constructed a gravel driveway with edgestones around its perimeter and a naturalized planting. The driveway led into a gravel walkway that extended around to the back of the house where it became a gravel patio. We also installed a set of natural basalt columns and carried the same naturalized planting and boulder theme around to the backyard. This year we built upon the original project by converting the gravel patio into a paver patio and installed flagstone steppers along the gravel walkway. More recently, we just finished up adding to the planting to create a shorter privacy screening using Black Dragon Cryptomeria. The outside of this house features a stream that winds from one side of the property to the other. There are paver stone pathways that lead from each side of the house to the main entrance plus one that leads you from the front of the house through the beautiful kitchen side vegetable garden to the back trex deck. The landscaping has a mix of mature trees, bushes, and tons of flowers including pine trees, boxwoods, roses, petunias, daisies, dahlias, bleeding hearts and more.

This native rock garden in Central Oregon was created to collect rain water and snow melt, and to celebrate seasonal effects. You can see that it is lower than the immediate area and has stone steps to the right climbing out of the depression. In this mid summer photograph you see fire cracker penstemon, pineneedle penstemon, rocky mountian pentemon, and yarrow blooming. The tall skinny plant is a scarlet gilia that will be covered in red trumpet bloom in August.
