The beadboard cabinets were salvaged and painted in a dark blue color contrasting with the light colors of backsplash, floor and countertops. Moving the refrigerator to allow a landing space next to the range was not an option here, as many built-in cabinets had to be modified. Instead, a drawer cabinet was added to conform an L-shape with the sink countertop giving continuity to the prep area.
