The front door opens into the living room of this old cottage and storage was an issue for the family, as well as enough seating should guests pop around. Practical bench seating with storage drawers below provided a great solution.

We wanted this office to feel contemporary with a contrast from the natural wood tones in the millwork and doors in the house. I decided to introduce rich espresso stained cabinetry and the crown molding detail brought it together. The cabinetry doors have a leather front inlay. The cabinetry is packed with function. We added file cabinets under the bench seat, an awning appliance garage for electronics, and we doubled his storage from his previous furniture. I chose Acacia Walnut Floors to complement the wood style and meet up with the maple hardwood floors just outside the door.

New window seat adds seating and storage to the space. We added thick new moldings for architectural interest; dark hardwood floors provide additional warmth. The vintage chandelier draws color from the nearby ocean and adds a spark of color and interest.
Solid wood Parsons dining table and the Wishbone chairs provide an interesting mix of geometric shapes, styles and textures. The sisal rug grounds the area and adds another natural element. The window seat was added to create much-needed additional seating and extra storage space.
Schrader & Companies
This French Classic Mansard home needed a delicate hand and keen eye to detail when it owners were ready to remodel. That's exactly what Schrader & Companies, BATC's Remodeler-of-the-Year, brought to the job. They began by keeping the original structure and architecture true, but updated with energy-efficient Marvin windows and a new front door.
Then moved inside. The owners wanted a modern, livable home that suited the way they live today. Schrader came through by melding state-of-the-art products and materials with a style that can be described as traditional transitional European. The result is a home that seamlessly balances aesthetics and function.
Step in the front entrance to the open stairwell, which is designed to showcase detailed custom iron balusters and a balcony overlooking the foyer. Repurposing the old laundry room into a functional mudroom enhanced the family entrance.
The truly modern kitchen looks as beautiful as it cooks. A 48-inch Wolf range is set off by a lavish François & Co. stone backsplash and very detailed custom cabinets and millwork. An elaborate island and 60-inch armoire Sub-Zero refrigerator complete the look.
Next, Schrader opened up the kitchen to a spacious dining room addition. Guests will be impressed by the barrel-vaulted ceilings and custom arched window that overlooks the wooded backyard. The family room features a detailed, custom entertainment system housing a flat screen TV and a see-through fireplace framed with an arch that peeks into the living room. And what French home would be without a beautiful grand piano music room.
The upper-level owners' suite is a delight, with added cabinetry and coz sitting room with its own fireplace. And down the hall, a firth bedroom was transformed into a large and truly convenient laundry room.
The lower level wasn't ignored, and boasts a temperature-controlled wine cellar, sunroom with arched opening, media room with another fireplace, as well as a study with custom-made desk and extensive cabinetry.

Dining room with large French/farm style trestle table, in reclaimed wood. With such a expansive table we decided to place two chandeliers for maximum lighting. This table will seat 10 -12 people. Cain, and upholstered chairs, along with a bench keep this dining room casual, however still beautiful.

RJK Friday Feature: This large master bathroom was in need of revamping. We installed all new finishes and fixtures with the exception of the vanity cabinet at our homeowner’s request. A double vanity with new granite countertop adds plenty of space for two preparing in the morning at the same time. To the left of the double vanity, a separate toilet room is enclosed by a pocket door. A large Mirabelle "Key West" Soaking Tub is placed underneath two windows in the bathroom, letting one using the bathtub to enjoy all the natural light coming in. In the corner in this master bath is a large shower complete with a custom built-in niche, and corner bench seat. The Gazzini tile found in this shower continues throughout the bathroom, and is highlighted with two mosaic rows with glass inserts.

This custom built-in bench serves two purposes. It is the perfect place to perch next to the window with a book, and both open and closed shelving provides storage. It also contains the media and A/V equipment for the nearby TV above the fireplace. Tubing runs through the wall connecting the wall-mounted TV to the components inside the bench.

This kitchen was totally transformed from the existing floor plan. I used a mix of horizontal walnut grain with painted cabinets. A huge amount of storage in all the drawers as well in the doors of the cooker hood and a little bread storage pull out that is usually wasted space. My signature corner drawers this time just having 2 drawers as i wanted a 2 drawer look all around the perimeter. You will see i even made the sink doors "look" like 2 drawers. There is a designated cooking area which my client loves with all his knives/spices/utensils etc all around him. I reduced the depth of the cabinets on one side to still allow for my magic number pass through space, this area has pocket doors that hold appliances keeping them hidden but accessible. My clients are thrilled with the finished look.
