Inspiration for an asian living room in Other with white walls, dark hardwood floors, a standard fireplace and no tv.

This dining room was the original home's living room. Notice the fire place? It's original - a new coat of paint has it looking brand new. It is one of the only rooms left from the original structure. The homeowners have their extended families nearby and often host large, informal dinners. They felt the large room was much better suited as their dining room, and opted to turn the original smaller dining room into a formal living room.
The wainscoting on the walls and coffered ceilings are new, but constructed to look original. The salvaged wood farmhouse table is the perfect gathering spot for their family and a nice contrast to the more formal touches like the silk window treatments and subdued color palette.

The walls were finished in a green Venetian plaster to bring extra light-reflection into the room. A handmade Agra rug was selected to enhance the green/blue palette and introduce raspberry / burgundy tones, thereby incorporating the clients' existing upholstered furnishings with new selections. The green & gilt-toned chandelier and sconces added additional sparkle in this lively, reflective room. Hand-painted details above the doors were extracted and rendered from photographed images of the rug. This ornament replaced a fabric treatment, thus allowing the doors to open freely to the outdoor patio.

To eliminate an inconsistent layout, we removed the wall dividing the dining room from the living room and added a polished brass and ebonized wood handrail to create a sweeping view into the living room. A blue velvet tufted sofa, crosshair hide stools from Wisteria, and a coffee table from HD Buttercup create a comfortable seating area.

The chandelier in this living room was created by a local ironsmith from wagon wheels found on the property. The moss rock fireplace anchors the large space at one side and the tall windows frame a wonderful view of the lake in front of the house. This house was in Architectural Digest spring of 2006.

This fireplace was handcrafted and dry-stacked by an artisan mason who shaped and placed each stone by hand. Our designer hand-picked stones from each palate to coordinate with the interior finishes. Remaining stones were also hand-selected for the outdoor kitchen, adjacent to this space.

Mid-Century Modernism inspired our design for this new house in Noe Valley. The exterior is distinguished by cubic massing, well proportioned forms and use of contrasting but harmonious natural materials. These include clear cedar, stone, aluminum, colored stucco, glass railings, slate and painted wood. At the rear yard, stepped terraces provide scenic views of downtown and the Bay Bridge. Large sunken courts allow generous natural light to reach the below grade guest bedroom and office behind the first floor garage. The upper floors bedrooms and baths are flooded with natural light from carefully arranged windows that open the house to panoramic views. A mostly open plan with 10 foot ceilings and an open stairwell combine with metal railings, dropped ceilings, fin walls, a stone fireplace, stone counters and teak floors to create a unified interior.

A fresh and modern vision for English country living with exacting attention to custom details such as herringbone floors, lamp shades, drapery and a custom-built banquette that provides a hint of the modern in the midst of classic country refinement. From arresting open-back chairs curated for their sculptural quality to carefully rusticated wall finishes that provide a palette for aged-glass mirrors flanking the entrance to the library, no small detail is left unattended. Design inspiration for this petite living room emerged from an emphasis on creating compelling vistas and marrying form and function between this little charmer and its adjoining library, foyer and dining room. For a client who required a fresh take on the charm and subtle sophistication of an English country living room without any of the stuffiness, only the most impeccable design choices would suffice. Classic styles merge with rustic-contemporary in this tailored living room. Traditional plaid in chic grays adorn the two modern armchairs while the clean-lined contemporary sofas seamlessly blend in with the natural stone fireplace and full-length window treatments. The dark wooden coffee table contrasts with the lighter woods of the home add a touch of rustic romance.
Designed by Michelle Yorke Interiors who also serves Seattle as well as Seattle's Eastside suburbs from Mercer Island all the way through Issaquah.
