This small casual family room area is a part of the kitchen great room. Creating the bright coastal feel are 2 matching white canvas sofas with classic blue and white pillows. Soft greens, yellows and oatmeal add color accents to all the blue and white. Blue and oatmeal rug grounds the area around the wall mounted TV (not in photo).

New colonnade was designed to separate living and dining rooms and better define these spaces. This is a familiar bungalow era detail, but we found no evidence one had been earlier removed. Our design continues line of plate rail and is deep enough for china cabinets. By reducing width of center opening the corners of rooms are more useable. Cased opening allows for different decorative treatment in rooms, and space no longer resembles a bowling alley. Living room walls are BM "Huntington Beige" and dining room BM "Confederate Red."

Klopf Architecture
There were to many disjointed spaces in the existing Eichler home, and the owners didn’t like entering right into the kitchen wall. There were not enough functional spaces in the house but it was tricky to see how or where to add to the home without losing the atrium. The Klopf team re-arranged the spaces in the house to put the bedroom functions under the flat, 8-foot ceiling and the whole great room under the higher gable roof, moving the kitchen to the corner and creating a symmetrical and regular-shaped great room. A narrow band of skylights and a reduced, but still open, atrium brighten the family’s days and bring more greenery into their lives. The Klopf team turned the small front bedroom into a laundry room, powder room, and hallway to a large, added work-from-home office/family room that can double as a guest room. From the street the addition looks like it might have been there all along, but for the family members it’s a game-changer.

Small Sewing Room - Photos & Ideas | Houzz
Design + Build by Lazar
The floor beneath the street level has been built as a child’s retreat of sorts. There are four bedrooms linked in pairs by Jack and Jill bathrooms. This, plus twin study centers, an open play room and a small lounge—strategically tucked away from study and play areas—that’s rigged for gaming and TV-watching. On this floor, the vibe is light and airy, with white walls against light hued floors of engineered oak. “They have a great combination of tones, and are more durable than actual wood,” notes Lazar. There is also plenty of custom cabinetry, from desks and drawers to multiple-sized nooks for stowing away toys and books.
Though positioned as a children’s floor, it doesn’t have to be. The floor, and the entire house, has been designed with enough blank slate so it can be stylistically recast as an owner sees fit. “Everything is very subtle very clean,” says Lazar. “Anyone can come in and use the space any way they choose.”
