Create a warm gathering space in the kitchen with wood floors, granite top counters, walnut cabinetry and woven shades in the window. The shades can be closed and you can still see through them, but they block the sunlight from coming in and you don't feel closed in. For comfort add a couple of long wool runner rugs. They can be cleaned and kept nice for years. The two counter stools are perfect for that quick meal.....or homework!
